Songs Not Representative of a Band

In quick succession, have heard these two songs - one for sure, but maybe both don't reflect the bands' full body of work.

The first was Filter - Take a Picture



... the second was Extreme - More Than Words (but I don't know any other songs by them, just thought they were less of an acoustic ballad band and more 80s rock, verging on hair metal?)

What other songs would be a 'horrible' introduction to a band given their other tunes?

In the same vein as Extreme, though much less hair rocky, Mr Big. Four talented musicians producing massively accomplished and polished rock, and their biggest hit is the acoustic ballad, "To be With You".

I know they were a very versatile band but always thought stay or go was not representative of the Clash, Mick Jones singing, trite, lyrically basic.

Yes it's more tricky when a band evolves over the years and tries out many styles of music. For example anyone only familiar with Roxy Music's early work hearing the reformed band's 'Avalon' would probably think it was a Brian Ferry solo work...

I'd think most entries in this would be soft/acoustic ballads from metal bands, or more rarely vice versa . Starts checking Extreme Noise Terror's and The Nolans discographies...

Yes! That and "Casbah" gets lots of play on 'classic rock' radio here. There are even other radio friendly Clash songs they could go with, like Train in Vain, which I like much better than those other two.

Hardcore bands don't even do acoustic versions of their songs for the most part, let alone write one that's supposed to be played that way.

Funny how songs that don't really represent a bands body of work tend to be iconic. The Cure have always been pop/goth - but this is another level of cheery happiness. Lovely though.

Thought of another one. ‘Here’s to Us’ by Halestorm is a great song, but not typical of their usual oeuvre (which I also like).

Going through some of their old stuff and expected more Cardigans songs to sound like this. Almost none I've heard had this edge, and while many others are pop-ish like Love Fool, they're not as bouncy and more 'lo fi'.

Yup, More than words by extreme.
Because of this song Nuno said he would have lots of 40+ year old women turning up to his shows thinking that Extreme were a pop band full of lovely ballads.....and they would leave, half way through the first song usually decadence dance..(which I fucking love btw)..
They also would return pornograffiti too, to the CD stores.
