Good call

Our youngsters still need to mature and you may as well start grooming the captain for the future

$harks have recruited a Leinsterman to join the coaching setup

https://www.news24.com/sport/rugby/curr ... s-20210624

Thank goodness we're not just blowing our new-found wealth on players. The real lack of depth at the $harks, and the rest of SA for that matter, is coaching.

I am now fairly confident we will win the inagural URC, possibly unbeaten.

Sad they don't invest in a local black coach for development.

Sharks are modeled as a family and their history certainly shows that. I was concerned with the buyout that these values would be lost. But it has been shown to be the culture that most players of value want to be a part of. I mean. If you want to get the best value abroad, spend a season at the Sharks. The Sharks union is the most transformed of all the other unions. Our national captain has bought into it. Him of the bent knee.
Don't come preach transformation in a glass house

As opposed to the Bull who only poach old white players? (Apart from their only black starting player who they poached from the Sharks)

We've gone down this road before. It's not poaching, these are professional rugby players who seek to play for us.

Jake White develope x Sharks PoC as coaches compare to the Sharks who import overseas coaches.

Sharks executive is all whites.

That's where they need to invest transformation first.

The talent of players is there. The coaching is not. Same for all of SA. I have no problem bringing in international coaches to help. Just like you did with Eddie Jones before he dumped you for another gig.

According to Sards I vote for the ANC. Transformation starts at the top. You are far from that, Zuma will probably apply for that Sharks job.. WP is done with that.

I guess we'll never know

Interesting quote from Coetzee:
“The result of the Rainbow Cup final played in Treviso, is a timely warning that South African rugby cannot adopt a conservative outlook, and with this in mind it is exciting to welcome these coaches to our Cell C Sharks coaching team, as they will impart their knowledge of the northern hemisphere conditions and style of play, as we prepare for our participation in a new tournament.”

“We have identified areas of our game that we want to improve in and will be announcing further coaching appointments in the coming weeks. We are confident that we’ve assembled a high-level technical team, who will support our head coach in the effective execution of our playing DNA, and which reaffirms our commitment of creating a winning mindset across all spheres of our business”, added Coetzee.

Etienne Fynn (Forwards) and Phiwe Nomlomo (Skills) will retain their coaching roles in the senior team set-up".

TRANSFER NEWS: The Sharks have said goodbye to one of their locks.

JJ van der Mescht has been granted an early release from his contract to join Stade Francais in France, by mutual agreement and with immediate effect.

Van der Mescht joined the Sharks in 2018 and was part of the Sharks Under-19 team that won the U19 championship that same year.

His last outing in a Sharks jersey was against the British and Irish Lions a week ago.

Commenting on his departure, Sharks CEO Eduard Coetzee said: “We are obviously very disappointed to lose a young player with JJ’s ability.

“He has immense potential, and we hope that this move to France gives him renewed motivation to work on his fitness and discipline.

“Our best wishes are extended to him for this next chapter in his career.”

That's a bit of a shock and a shame, but I wonder if we're offloaded a liability.

Seemed full of promise, but he's obviously been stuffing his face full of pies the last few months.

Stade Francais will be a shock for him. If he makes it past the first year, then I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a French jersey soon.

Also can't blame the lad considering what's happening on his doorstep.

He’s a decent player, big lump - only seen him a couple of times though. He probably had this french move lined up for a while, and recent events just made his mind up and take the cash and build his life elsewhere.

We had a fat player Andy Goode who went to France and lost kilos due to less processed food and more wine not beer

Will Skelton the Wallaby lock was 140kg when he headed North. He has shed 15-20kg playing in UK and France and is now an absolute beast. JJ is a freakish athlete. Who should be playing at 120kg rather than the 135kg he is listed at.

Yep, no need to read between the lines... likewise his answer, though:

Commenting on his move, Van der Mescht said: “... I am really excited to move on and play in France and learn from new coaches and players that will make me a better player.”

Very underwhelming player at the Sharks. Physical freak who could have been so much more if he was willing to put in some effort; both physically and mentally.

One of those players that doesn’t look like he’s ever had to really work for his success because of his gifts, so never developed any skills or discipline and then got a massive shock when he hit the professional level of his sport.

I hope his stint if France helps him develop as a player and that he can reach his potential. If he doesn’t, he has nobody to blame but himself.

I think he has been very impressive as a 21 year old tight forward in what's been a very difficult introduction to senior rugby. He has some rough edges and needs to work on his conditioning. No 21 year old lock walks into senior rugby and dominates. He's just been overhyped as a schoolboy is all.
