Makes a change from just dim rugby players.
1) Cheptegei: favourite in the men's 10,000m and decides to let Ethiopian Barega get a huge march at the front on the last lap which he then can't reel back in.
2) Shericka Jackson: one of the favourites in the women's 200m. Decides to walk towards the line in the 1st heat of the 200m and gets pipped at the line and
so fails to qualify at all being outside the top 3.
You have to wonder what mental and tactical training some of these folks get in their years of prep for this.

Ahh yes. The Brit. The other one did it in the heats.Enzedder wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:25 am Spend years training for the games, get to the final of the 100m and then jump the gun.
All for nothing.
That was so casual. An American shotputter suffered a similar fate last night. Highly ranked. A serious medal prospect. But she didn't take her first two qualifying throws seriously, clowned around to the cameras, then the nerves got her and she defaulted on her third throw. No more smiling.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:23 am2) Shericka Jackson: one of the favourites in the women's 200m. That’s not a case of wrong mental or tactical training. That’s just absolute arrogance and it’s great to see when they fall flat on their face.Gumboot wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 9:13 amThat was so casual. US relay team

To quote Carl Lewis: “The USA team did everything wrong in the men’s relay. The passing system is wrong, athletes running the wrong legs, and it was clear that there was no leadership. It was a total embarrassment, and completely unacceptable for a USA team to look worse than the AAU kids I saw.”

The guy who stopped because he thought his eye had come out must be in there.
Perhaps I’m being a little unfair. As it must have been a bad knock.
“ Hector Pardoe thought he'd lost an eye after elbow to face ends his Olympic swim marathon
Hector Pardoe's Olympic debut ended in the worst possible way after he was elbowed in the face during the 10km marathon swim”

In distance athletics it's been going on for years. Guys with sprint finishes trying to run record times, guys wit record times running tactical races.....
There's bonkers stuff happening in competition (as opposed to in season events) all the time

We covered the Irish boxer who injured his ankle celebrating his quarter final win and couldn't compete in his semi-final?
