Yes, not only did he leave too big a gap between him and Kenny, he was too busy checking out what the riders were doing behind him and got caught out when Kenny set off. Interesting that Kenny had planned for this and had decided that if he was given a big enough gap at the front, he would try and win from there.

I think the rest of the field had more or less written Kenny off as a major threat, and Kenny himself doubted he could win a short sprint. So they were busy looking at each other and weren't worried till it was too late

Chris Hoy also made the point that, once he had set off none of them wanted to be the person leading the chase as that person would almost certainly lose any chance of a medal (as the others would follow and then pass before the finish line)

Salut Laurent.

In which countries is handball a major sport? I've seen it in Germany and France but not in any anglophone country or outside Europe. Am I wrong?

Separately, I love team sport. Love it. It's the best. And it's great to see France doing well im some of them. But your Olympic Association would greatly improve France's medal prospects if it nudged athletes towards individual sports with multiple potential medals per athlete than team sports with multiple athletes per potential medal.

Mainland Europe and med/arabic peninsulla/latin america (basically non anglo centric ).it was invented by the Germans I think.

The English Route yes for medal count. You can try and divert funding to elite stuff but the grassroot will suffer as a result.

There is an elite structure in place but most of the time we have 1 type of individual sport getting a good generation not all of them.
I prefer team sport and as these are all professional sports now it rellies on grassroot and larger clubs detecting gifted kids.

The individual sport like Judo also benefit from a good grassroot setup.

Athletics/Swimming/cycling have very good setups but do not appear to be able to scale or identify the real good talent right now. (or the best chemist).

One benefit of team sports over individual ones is maybe a mental health one. It seems mental health problems are more common with the latter.

UK sprinter, CJ Ujah - part of the 4x100 team, has just been suspended for failing a drugs test.

Although I’m a realist (or cynic) when it comes to doping and believe they’re all at it - least in events like women’s sprinting and some others, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the women’s javelin at the recent Olympics.

You don’t get physiques like this anymore

Some of the lady javelin throwers were actually quite attractive.

B sample tested positive. Team will have medals withdrawn and he will be a pariah
British sprinter CJ Ujah's 'B' sample has tested positive, confirming the result of his initial test from the Tokyo Olympics.

Ujah, 27, was part of the British men's 4x100m relay team which won silver at the rearranged 2020 Olympics.

They will now almost certainly lose those medals as a result of the tests

It's particularly tough on relay teams when this happens.
