People are just not even pitching for vaccines. Yesterday, Gallagher Estate which can literally handle 1000's was completely empty at 3pm and hadn't been busy all day. Same on Sunday as I took the GF there for hers.

Just pitch up. Don't even worry about the appointment time. You'll be through in under 30 mins including the mandatory 15 min observation.

 yup, almost more people helping than getting vaccinated. Like you say, every 2m someone directing you, asking you to sanitise hands, checking you, etc. I must have sanitised hands at least 10 times by the time I got to the jab booth. but overall a good experience, every one was very friendly and pretty efficient at getting people to where they need to be.

Had my second and final shot of bioNTec/Pfizer this morning. Was a lot busier than the first time, a bunch of farm workers were bussed in. They all got the one shot Janssen vaccine and some of them were really scared.

Interesting. You got your first after me. Did you get an SMS to get your second, or did you do another walk-in for your second dose?

My second is scheduled for 23 Aug on my vax card.

My second was exactly 6 weeks after the first, was written on my vax card and also got an SMS on Monday with date, time and place

Some of my friends (general public) got the Janssen last week.

Ah okay. Maybe you got your first before me then.

One of my friends in Joburg got the option when he rocked up at the vaccination site. Chose the J&J one and done one.

The anti-vax segment of our society is huge imo. If we get over 50% vaccinated ever I will be very surprised. There'll be a whole lot of reasons people won't get this vaccine but the bottom line is we're fucked. 1.9m doses in the last 15 days. It sounds a lot but that's under 130k per day. We now need to go the US route as much as I disagree with it. Maybe give it 8 weeks to let the vulnerable have a chance and then open it all up. No restrictions, except social distancing and mask wearing.

Agreed

Also start putting pressure on the anti vaxx crew. Do you want to go watch the Bokke v NZ test in 2022? No problem, let us see your proof of vaccination. Ditto for dining out, domestic flights and hotel stays

They will line up much quicker once the squeeze is on

It is going to be a massive problem across the continent. They are having problems here trying to get people in for their second jab; because the first one made them a bit sick they don't want to get the second.

Also stems from massive distrust of the government.

That may work for those who can afford test tickets, dining out and air travel. Most people in this country can't and have nothing so you can't coerce them like that. Every country is unique and our population has anti-authoritarianism baked into its DNA. I've spoken to anti-vaxxers from every strata of our society. They're everywhere. And the worrying thing is that I reckon only a small percentage of the antis will admit it. So for every out and proud anti there are probably 5 who are silent about it.

Same. Saw an interesting stat on Reddit about vaccine hesitancy; by education. The chart had a U-shape with the 2 biggest groups being those without high-school and those with PhDs.

It's baffling that people that are supposedly so smart can be so stupid at the same time.

Vaccine for over 18s to be made available earlier
Health minister Dr Joe Phaahla says that the government plans to open Covid-19 vaccines to all adults in South Africa weeks earlier than expected.

South Africa is officially set to open vaccinations to people between 18-35 from 1 September. However, Phaahla said his department was now in consultations to move this date up to the end of this week.

“We are in further consultations with our leadership in cabinet, (and) we will probably before the end of this week open for all adults above 18,” he told 702. “If not this week, then not later than next Monday (23 August) for all adults.
Sure sign that they are struggling to get enough people for the jab

Yep. Heard about that. Netcare is distancing themselves from her and all the anti-vax people are now shouting "CENSORSHIP!".

Amazing that such a well renowned doctor will tarnish her career like this in an instant.

Yes, I still have in my phone's diary my initial appointment for 19 July....

I have also heard the 2nd can be a tough one, but I guarantee you it is worth it. I would want no one to live in constant fear of going from mild covid to ventilator covid, like I had to on 2 occasions

What is the gap between first and second Pfizer jabs?

I'm 6 weeks gone since my first AZ jab. There is nobody here saying how long we have to wait, and I've read anything from 8 to 12 weeks is good.
