Charlie Watts .... gooooonnnneeeeee
Very sad news. But what a life lived.
I always enjoyed his persona as the calm sensible one when compared to the chaos of Mick and Keith. Even on stage, no matter what is happening he was always strumming on his drums with a grin on his face.
For me his best stuff was always the old school rhythm and blues.

I remember an interview when he was in Big Band and he was asked why it was called Big Band. In a very straight and serious tone he replied, because it is big. Honestly it was funny ..........

My mother, currently of quite ill health, has spent decades ‘preserving’ her internal organs through ingestion of obscene volumes of gin and has applied a natural but utterly ruthless tanning process to her skin. I fear she will outlive us all as there is nothing left that can deteriorate. And before you say what about her mind she is as mad as a bag of badgers so there is no way of knowing when that begins to fail.

His sister, Linda, was my neighbour for 20 odd years.
It was many years before I realised why she had so many pics of Charlie and the Stones around her house!
She had all their childhood and family stuff. Apparently Charlie reckoned he couldn't be trusted to keep it safe.
And it is true that he had no interest in rock. His love was big band/jazz.

Gentleman, or bloke that hung around with paedo Bill Wyman? Outstanding drummer mind
He was. I'm a drummer now but with Roland kit. Don't want to rattle the neighbours.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 8:00 am Gentleman, or bloke that hung around with paedo Bill Wyman? Outstanding drummer mind
Used to play keyboards, guitars and sax. Nerve damage from my days of playing rugby means this is a fall back position but I'm not bad.
Oh no. Been playing a lot of Rolling Stones' tracks and trying to copy his style, which is very simple and quiet.
But what would I know? Been a musician from a musical family since I was four.
Great stuff. I was brought up by Ginger Baker.
I thought you were raised by wolves.
