Oh God can you imagine? Remember the ridiculous cycling shorts they used to wear at one stage? Or the little piece of tape across the bridge of their nose? Giant shoulder pads. Gloves. Backs are always the first to embrace these trends.

Andy Goode and Brian Habana were always into that kind of shit.

Didn't a freezing cold Allan Hewson once wear leggings in a game? Twas a long time ago, and I can't remember if it was in a provincial game or a test match...

With the burns you get from modern turf, not to mention the potential for infection, I'm sure we'll see a lot adopt.

And for the UK, Ire ... you'll want them for colder weather when your Gulf Stream stops!

Do players still wear shoulder pads?

In colder weather i like to use the shoulder padding top. Helps prevent bruising on my shoulders.

If it's cold the leggings on artificial turf will definitely be considered too. Really dislike that stuff.

Ah for the days when you could break an ankle on a frozen, rutted pitch in the Scottish Borders.

Definite gap in the market right now for a brand to make skin tight leggings specifically for rugby. They'd probably look like the bib type you use in cycling and go up over the shoulders. Would also need foot straps. Could even incorporate the socks on the design to get more streamlined assuming that would comply with the laws?

It'll be a company like Skins but their products are designed for runners. I imagine something more robust will be developed for rugby, maybe reinforced hip and knee sections etc.

Malins and May as far as I know. Someone on twitter mentioned that something like 6 tries were scored on the weekend by players wearing tights, so watch out for all the kids following suit. :)

Rugby tends to be pretty lame when it comes to chants, but hopefully some get this going!

We may look like sissies

I think the big message is, if you’re going to wear them, choose something that matches your kit.

Malins was all black and stealth looking, while May’s were a kind of dirty grey and looked like a pair of granddad’s old long-johns
