This may be a stupid question...

but in T20 fielding is considered more important than it is in test cricket, does batting (or bowling) have the same importance across the two formats?

Catches win matches in all formats.

I would say ground fielding is certainly more important in T20's. Saving a couple of boundaries could reduce the total to chase by 10-15 runs - which is pretty big in T20's. Catching is always important in any format.

Batting in tests and limited overs can't really be compared - one format you are trying to keep the other team in the field for as long as possible while scoring around 30 to 40 runs for every 100 balls faced. Limited overs you want to be around a run a ball when batting - although in T20's a decent strike rate is about 140 -160.

30-40 runs per 100 deliveries in tests is a thing of the past.

Far more so. In such a short format, the odd misfield could be expensive and the spectacular catch decisive. Which is why the Windies "operating" with a bunch of lard arses in the field is an error: you can't hide them all at slip because no-one uses slips in T20 (much)!

IMHO depth of bowling in T20 is probably more decisive than batting....... even though the format was designed as crash bang to favour the batsmen.

You know what I mean - in tests you have the option to bat time.

Probably down to 2 Aussie captains: Border and Tubs.

Huge gulf between the sides but given the Deshis' efforts in the qualifying group games, we should not be surprised.

As strong as Pakistan have looked I’d still go for an England V India final.

Pak will inevitably screw up en route and odds of them defeating India twice in however many centuries seem slim!

I notice that both Scotland and Namibia took the knee before the game.

I really don't understand why it's so hard. Why it's something you would go home for. Why it's something you would refuse to play for your country over. And why you would be happy to potentially sabotage the chances of your National side and your team mates.

Decent comeback from Scotland, was looking like 30 or 40 all out at one stage. 100+ would be good and achievable if they last that long.

Edit: perhaps even 120+

How can it possibly be pointless? Surely for e.g. if you are an atheist it doesn't mean you have the right to tell someone of faith that their principles on kneeling are pointless?

Shit tournament so far, most of the pitches have been pretty crap for T20, a format that is at its best when the conditions favour the batsmen. Too many teams limping to low totals.

It's pointless because it's arbitrary and he's making it up as he's going along.

Poor tactics by Namibia who should have kept the pressure on but played it out as if Sco were only 1 or 2 down.

I hope you're right, but it can potentially become a distraction and even divide the team.

Apart from the fact that one of our best players has removed himself.

Scotland have done well to at least reach three figures after a calamitous start, and are also trying to put as much pressure as they can on Namibia. Namibia still favourites, but at least Scotland haven't given up.

You see, I prefer this. But yes, T20 was formatted to appeal to the US style sport audience i.e. the bigger the score, the better the spectacle surely must be......
