French flanker Kevin Gourdon has to retire from the sport following a finding that he has some sort of cardiac issue that puts his life at risk if he continues playing.

An extremely gifted player, he was also one of these players who struggle to put in the hard work day in day out required to maintain the highest standards. As a result, he only showed what he is capable of in a few flashes of brilliance.

Really loved him when he was at his best though. A mix of power, pace, elusive steps and good hands, with an eye for the offload, I think he could have been capped by the Fiji with the right birth.

Bad news. Ironic that a player known for his huge work rate has retired due to heart issues. If had been Atonio, he could have carried on.
