Strictly, a n00b is not a newbie but someone who sucks at something......

My understanding is that he sucks because he's a newby. That's were the term noob came from.

Seems a bit of confusion over origins but both common usage now:average joe wrote: Fri Jan 14, 2022 8:42 am My understanding is that he sucks because he's a newby. That's were the term noob came from.
A n00b (sometimes usually "noob" or "newb") is a phrase used to indicate someone who is new or more commonly does bad (or sucks) at something. In other ways, it's someone who's inexperienced and/or ignorant or unskilled person. The phrase n00b is also used in rage comics and memes, and the term is especially used in online games.
Newbie and noob came first, very much an early days of online gaming thing that pushed it into popular internet usage. n00b was people trying to sound cool. n00b as an unironic insult for anyone who's not very good was basically used by idiots anyway, 90% of the time when that person is doing much worse than the people they're insulting and they're really salty about it

Funny thing is I don't recall noob at all back then. The last bit is the norm on most online games. If an over-usage of
‘s start to appear in an influx of posts from one particular poster I will be happy to bring this custom back.

“It was a pet, not an animal. It had a name, you don't eat things with names, this is horrific!”
Noob was pretty gauche. n00b came about because of people still thinking leetspeak was cool, and it causes me physical pain every time I see some scrub using it, especially when they're essentially whining about getting their arses kicked. It's like... mate, you're losing and you're accusing your opponent of being new and/or shit. What does that say about you?Torquemada 1420 wrote: Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:58 amFunny thing is I don't recall noob at all back then. The last bit is the norm on most online games. "pwned" was just a dumb typo? No value in a P for an O.JM2K6 wrote: Fri Jan 14, 2022 1:22 pm Noob was pretty gauche. n00b came about because of people still thinking leetspeak was cool, and it causes me physical pain every time I see some scrub using it, especially when they're essentially whining about getting their arses kicked. No doubt that was how it was born, but it became very popular very quickly.Torquemada 1420 wrote: Fri Jan 14, 2022 2:43 pm"pwned" was just a dumb typo?
