Coz everything I love smells like Wedwo.

So now I have 2 choices what to put on my toast: Marmite and Bovril.

That is a disaster! I love me some fish paste. I have discovered a classic Victorian spread called Gentleman's relish or Patum Peperium. Not really the same but is a great way to have fishy toast. Its really just a pate with anchovies, butter and spices. Its something that Bertie Wooster would have had for breakfast. Very easy to make. A fancy fish paste.

A quick search reveals that there are quite a few Pecks Anchovette copy cat recipes around. I don't think it would be that hard to make.

Pioneer Foods has been bought by PepsiCo.

Marmite HP sauce (Cillie open a thread on it) and myself was first in the firing line.

CAROL’S HOMEMADE FISH PASTE (UK)
For those who love fish paste and can’t buy it outside SA
I make my own fish paste – just as nice as Pecks
2 tins of sardines in oil or water
1 tin anchovies in oil
1-2 tablespoons tomato paste

Drain sardines and remove any tiny bones
Place in blender and blend till smooth, add anchovies including half of the oil – add tomato paste (I add a bit at a time) and blend till smooth. (Check and adjust with more tomato paste if necessary) – keep in fridge. Make some toast and spread your fish paste – grab a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy the flavour of home. Hope this helps those of you who love Pecks.

Dude! Once a week I have a 3 slices of toast breakfast. One with a boiled egg, one with Pecks and one with marmalade. Young folk don't get the appeal of fishpaste. My daughters make vomiting noises as soon as I open the jar.

Bovril on toast is a Sunday evening classic for me while I watch Carte Blanche. I've ordered 5 cases of Pecks Anchovette on Takealot. Its like buying Bitcoin for a dollar a piece. Just wait for the fish past zombies to start getting a craving.

You don't want the Springboks in the 6 Nations.
You don't want South African teams in the HEC
You don't want carrots in your tartar sauce.

The problem might not be everyone else.

My son is the same with the fish paste.

Kids these days - they have no idea about fine foods. For them it's just McDonalds, Burger King and pizzas.

Seeing Chilli's response to this fine delicacy (fish paste) makes me think he needs to learn about fine cuisine as well. For some reason I was under the impression he's a trained chef, but no trained chef will react like he did to fish paste.

During the toughest period of my financial difficulties (halfway out of it) dinner consisted of white bread with either peanut butter (chunky obviously) or fish paste. A bit of extra money meant white bread with avocado.

Food for a king.

None of this hoity-toity, wishy-woshy, lardy-tardy fannying about "special chef recipes".

I did leave capers off the ingredient list. You need a brunoise carrot to give a bit of texture.
