Carlow body: Inquiry after 'dead man' brought into post office

An investigation has begun after claims that the body of a dead man was taken into Irish post office in an attempt to claim his pension. Reports suggest a deceased pensioner was "propped up by two men" as his body was carried into the building in County Carlow, according to the Irish Times. It said the two men "dropped" the body and fled when staff questioned them.

Gardaí (Irish police) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the "unexplained death of an elderly male". A Garda spokesman would not comment on the specifics of the incident which happened at a post office in Carlow town on Friday morning but released a brief statement. "The services of the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested," it said. "A post mortem will be conducted by the Office of the State Pathologist, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."

The Irish Times said it understood that a concerned staff member "enquired about the wellbeing of the man being propped up" when the group approached the post office counter. The two men fled, dropping the body at the scene and when staff went to check on the elderly man they were shocked to discover he was dead, the paper said.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported that earlier on Friday, a man had called in to the post office on Staplestown Road in Carlow and asked to collect a pension on behalf of an elderly man. That request was refused as staff told him the pensioner had to be present in order to release the money.

A short time later, two men arrived back with a man aged in his 60s who "collapsed" in the post office. "Detectives are now investigating if the man was already dead when he was brought to the post office," RTÉ said.

It reported that a nearby house has been "sealed off as a crime scene".

Took me a few views to fully appreciate all the nuances of this, and amazing directional mike on this guy's home security camera! It's almost as if it's scripted given how perfect it is, from the person in the car yelling "You just stole the wrong person's bike!" to the sad walk at the end.

Anders Brevik begins his parole hearing with a nazi salute.

He's had how long to reflect on his scumbag idiocy and he's still wallowing in it.
He's certainly doing his best to ensure that he never gets out of prison.
Notice he's got a 3 room cell and still complained it was inhumane.
I’m just amazed that he could be eligible for parole after only ten years.
Some countries don't take serious crime very seriously. Just the other day I read about a guy who raped a woman at knife point, slashed her clothes and cut her, and forced her to tell him she was his bitch as she was being raped - he got 5.5 years.

Perhaps the worst I can recall is the chap in Canada who sat next to a young man on a bus and proceeded to almost cut his head off with a knife and ate at least one of his eyeballs. He served about 5 years before he was released.

Indeed, I'm not a lock them up and throw away the key type but some sentences for assault/GBH seem astonishingly lenient.

In fairness, Norway don't have to deal with crimes like this all too often. Their justice system is set up for smaller scale crimes.

Parking operators in the UK.

So last month I had a nail in a tyre on my car. while I waited for the repair (£220), I used my son's car to get to work and park at the train station.
On the first morning I bought a 3 day ticket via Ringo. I swear I chose the right car reg, but it was all under my main car, which I failed to notice.

I then got 3 separate fines in the post for the 3 days (£85 each, £50 if I pay soon).
I appealed all 3, sending proof the of the 3 day ticket and the £750 annual ticket for the main car. All 3 appears we copy and paste identical responses.

Today, I got 3 responses...

The first one stated they've accepted my explanation, no fine to pay.
The next 2 stated, fuck you, pay, but they're being nice so I can pay £20 each.

Hi Ho Hi ho off to the ombudsman we go!

A nail in the tyre? 220 quid?

If you take the wheel to the local Sasol garage here, they'll charge you R30 for inserting a plug.

Much as BMW make lovely cars that are very comfortable to drive, I wish they'd bin this runflat idea. This isn't a battlefield, I don't need to drive 50 miles on punctured tyres, and the very concept limits the range you can go - 50 miles isn't enough to get home and there's no spare or repair kit, so you're screwed if kwikfit is shut.

I have run flats on my car - absolutely useless when you have a blow out on the A34 and the tyre is shredded by the time you can stop. Needed a tow truck to get home then another to get to the tyre fitters

I used to work for a parking meter company in Oz - luckily karma-wise, not for long.

I got pinged due to a the ticket not printing properly from an app - the Council were too tight to pay for the licence to view bookings and fined me.

It went backwards and forwards for 9 months as I wouldn't back down.

Finally got a letter just before it was going to court. I replied that, due to retention policies, the records would need to be restored from tape and I'd be the person restoring the files.......

They waived the fine :spin

Man, from that thread, I hadn't seen the video of the Tadhg Furlong, playing GAA football.

Cunts who kick dogs.

We were walking to a party and I had to dart off to get some more beers yesterday.

The lady of the house rings me and says a guy tried to kick my dog.

Have to admit, a few beers in, I got his details and confronted the cunt who was part of a group who had put a volleyball net up in the middle of an off lead dog area.

Not so brave when I turned up :Bulldog:

Good for you man.

Arseholes that don't keep an eye on their reactive dogs. Some tit running up a hill with his husky (long lead attached but not holding it) which jumped on and growled at my 11 month old pup. He was a bit sheepish when I launched the dogs leash at him.

Like an idiot I didn't run a website I've never bought from through Trustpilot before purchasing and now I've been scammed. I'm only out £70 and paid through Paypal, so have raised a dispute, but it's really annoying.

Allicoco, in case anyone was wondering, avoid these fucks.

Ordered a nice looking plaid shirt and light hoodie back in December. Took over a month to arrive, neither item was what I ordered and the quality was a far cry from what was on the site. Customer service suggested I donate it to a charity shop or gift to a friend and accept a 30% discount on the next order! Alarm bells.

A couple of emails later and they've upped their offer to a 20% refund while insisting that returning the incorrect items isn't advisable because it takes too long and I would have to pay the costs.

Had a quick google and they have a nascent Trust Pilot page that only started picking up reviews in mid January with stories like mine.

I had a particularly unpleasant experience with PayPal dispute resolution last year after being sent some substandard garden kit that arrived damaged - they sided with a retailer who wanted me to send the kit back to Malaysia at my own expense for a full refund.

Hopefully you have some luck. Paypal won't always side with the buyer (and rightly so), but you seem to have a fairly good case by what you're saying.

Yeah if it was just a case of me not liking the stuff after it showed up, then I wouldn't expect any success and would just have to wear the cost, but they've made an error and seem incredibly reluctant to do anything about it.

US East Coast hunkers down as 'bombogenesis' snowstorm hits

The US East Coast is hunkering down as a major blizzard hits the region for the first time in four years. The storm is forecast to stretch from the Carolinas to Maine, packing hurricane-force winds in coastal parts. Five states have declared emergencies.

Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston, a city that is no stranger to snowfall, said the storm could be "historic". More than two feet of snow could fall in New England. Weather officials also warn of flooding near the coast.

Over 5,000 US flights were cancelled between Friday and Sunday, according to FlightAware.

Forecasters say there is a chance the storm, known as a Nor'easter, will blanket the Boston area with up to 2ft (61cm) of snow. The current record of 27.6in (70cm) within 24 hours was set in 2003.

Experts say the storm will undergo bombogenesis, meaning that colder air is expected to mix with warmer sea air, leading to a swift drop in atmospheric pressure. The process leads to a so-called bomb cyclone.
I read that headline as 'bimbogenesis' at first glance
