What’s the likelihood of it happening as planned do you think, if NZ is in omicron panic mode?

I mean I am so looking forward to it.

South Africa has just hosted a test and one day series against the Indians with not single player or member of the support teams testing positive for Omicron. So I'm sure New Zealand can manage a two test series. Will be a bit shit for the SA players though who will spend more time in quarantine than playing cricket.

Yeah but in SA you don’t need to isolate if you’ve been in contact/living with someone do you?
NZ is fairly harsh (more like how we were in the beginning of the pandemic). Plus it’s possibly becoming more strict with omicron with 24 days isolation period being discussed.

I would be surprised if it doesn’t happen but crowds will likely be impacted. At the moment there is a limit of 100 to any event but there was talk of separate pods of 100 for the Women’s T20 World Cup (after South Africa have toured). That would mean you could have several distanced groups of 100 to at least have some form of a crowd in.

So on the cricket ….

What’s the latest with Williamson? Is he going to be around and losing a few tosses. Be good to have him about.

There is still doubt about Williamson’s elbow. It is unclear if it is his coin tossing arm but I haven’t heard any odds on his likelihood of being fit or not.

Under Mark Boucher we have lost 14 out of 15 tosses.

What pitches will NZ prepare? Bouncy or river beds /mats on a rugby field?

The last series v India looked quite green, doubt they would prepare similar pitches with our tall bowling line up

Our pitches have been misleading for a while. If you looked at the Hagley Oval pitch vs Bangladesh it was nearly the same colour as the outfield on day one but wasn’t a green seamer by any stretch.

With the line up we’ve been fielding at home I would expect a bit of pace and bounce and offering a bit early before settling in for good batting. One issue with our pitches is that they stay very true hence spinners struggling for game time on pitches that don’t break up - even Ajaz Patel went from taking 10 in an innings in India to not required in the squad at home.

He is not suited for the long format, much like Tahir. I don't think we will need a specialist spinner, both Markram and Elgar can turn the arm over if needed.

Black Caps are a top test cricket team far above us on the rankings.

They will be hungry to break their duck vs the Proteas in test series

Both teams have a fairly similar bowling attack. If Nortje is fit it may be advantage Proteas. Craps batting lineup is much classier. That said I don't think the tour will go ahead. NZ are likely going to have their hands full with the Omicron surge. Too many key workers will be out of action and we may as well let them get it out the way.

Eh?

Just been reading the news. Is it not happening?

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/460 ... cts-lawyer

Anyone who lives with a Covid-19 case but does not have the disease themselves must remain in isolation for at least 10 days after the case is released from isolation.

That tallies up to a total 24 days, assuming the household contacts do not themselves catch the virus or that nobody else in their home catches it.

The new rules, introduced on Friday, are part of the government's strategy to slow the spread of Omicron in the community but how employers and employees will manage the lengthened isolation period is already raising concerns.

I gave you the link to the Govt Covid site in the coronavirus thread. The rule is close contacts must isolate for 10 days AFTER their last contact… that might well turn into 24 days but the late are several possible permutations to that guideline.

It’s not a lockdown. The biggest part of it is restrictions on gatherings (100 limits). Lockdowns are no longer part of our response.

The tour will go ahead.

IOL on Boucher’s hearing
With the South African side travelling to New Zealand next Wednesday, ahead of the two match Test series with the World Test Champions, it is likely the proceedings will only take place upon the team’s return in March.

As per New Zealand’s strict pandemic measures, all incoming travellers must serve a 10-day ‘managed isolation and quarantine’ period before venturing in the country. The first Test with New Zealand starts on February 17.

Some of the right leaning media have posted a worst case scenario as being the likely norm.

If I caught covid, the Mrs and I would be quarantined for up to 12 days. If she contracted it on day 12, the clock will reset.

While we are in phase 1 of the management of this thing it makes sense to most people but some political party supporters think otherwise

Isn’t it the case that if you got it, she would need to quarantine for another 10 days after your 14 days, even when she did not catch it.

So just relating to my actual real UK situation, as comparison.

My daughter had covid from Sunday. Her lat flow is now clear, so she will be going back to school on Monday. (8 days after).

I have remained clear, and assuming I do will carry on as usual. (Although I don’t need to isolate I’m currently staying away).

In NZ, I’d be isolating 24 days from last Sunday. Ie another 20 days, correct?

14 days for my daughter, and another 10 on top assuming I’m clear ?

Or have I got it wrong?

You have it wrong. The isolation click resets whenever someone in the house gets the sniffles. If only one person does, its 12 days from when they test positive.

If a second person gets it, the 12 days starts again.

You are correct and sadly Enz is incorrect, if I catch covid I must isolate for 14 days, my wife will have to do the same and then once I test negative she must still isolate for a further 10 days, most people are dumbfounded by this and if omicron gets through NZ as quickly as predicted then I think we will see the govt backtracking on these requirements pretty quickly, if they don’t then we will run out of a workforce rather rapidly and I shudder to think of the knock on effects of that
At least we’ll all be at home to watch the cricket
