Greene King sponsor Harlequins with the obvious knock on effect on the quality of beer at the Stoop.

Not only are most Greene King beers poor, they've also taken over and closed down plenty of breweries over the years. I particularly bemoan the loss of Hardys and Hansons in Nottingham.

I got laughed out of town for saying that is one of my favourite beers…
Not a fan of dark(er) beers but ot was OK. Like their Ice Breaker but they didn't have any on tap today.
Just love old fashioned ale, not this fancyschmancee stuff
In a similar vein, is Deuchars IPA still widely available in Edinburgh? That was a proper session IPA, before they all got super strong and overly hoppy.

Yeah it's all over the place. Unfortunately I got so pissed on it at the Caly Sample Rooms about 20 years ago I haven't been able to touch it since.

Crimes against humanity no.1..

Went to a local Felinfoel tied house yesterday. Have had really good beer there over the years, asked for 2 pints Double Dragon, pulled from a beer engine and brought to table. Freezing cold, lager temp. Before I'd even tasted it, asked the barman why he's putting it through the chiller, he didn't know, so landlord comes over, "It's not real ale, it's keg... Felinfoel don't brew real ale anymore"... When I corrected him (seeing as I'd just organised a beer swap with some brewery friends of mine in Cambridge) he responded with "they don't supply real ale to their tied houses" and flounced off...
Not going to be my local again.....

Got given a couple of Elvis Juice, it's the first time I've had it since they lowered the percentage. Didn't think I'd notice as I've not had one in a while, it's pish!

I can't say I'm a fan of Brewdog beers.

I'm on Czech Budvar, still the best lager you can get in a bottle imo

These days Brewdog's best beers are their strong stouts. All their lower strength brews seem to have been dumbed down something awful.

Budvar is a classic pilsner but on balance I prefer a Bavarian Helles. I also think Pilsener Urquell has had something of a return to form in the last couple of years so you might consider giving that a go to compare.

I used to like Pilsner Urquell, but it started to taste a bit "milky" to me, I don't know if it was me or the beer

Last week I stopped by at the Abbey and picked up a case of these. It really is excellent. Sort of a cross between a Belgian dubbel and an Imperial Stout.

I shall be purchasing more.

Wanna buy a brewery?? Autralian co lion brewing are selling off four pure and magic rock.

Four pure can get in the bin, and not just because of the rishi/boris photo op, but there's still a decent brewery left in magic rock

Why are they unloading them? Not profitable?

I'm not sure, but they bought them during a massive expansion plan and I gather that they think the US acquisitions may be more profitable

BrewDog, the fast-expanding craft beer firm, has apologised to former employees who accused the company and its co-founder James Watt of fostering a “culture of fear” in which workers were bullied and “treated like objects”.
In an open letter circulated on Twitter, 61 former workers alleged that the Scottish brewer’s dizzyingly rapid growth had involved cutting corners on health and safety, espousing values it did not live by, and creating a “toxic” culture that left staff suffering from mental illnes

.............and they're at it again!!!! What an areshole
The boss of BrewDog has been accused of trying to intimidate former staff who are due to appear in a critical documentary that will shine a light on the beer brand’s workplace culture.

The self-styled “punk” brewery, which is targeting an eventual £2bn stock market float, apologised last year after current and former employees signed an open letter alleging a “culture of fear” in which workers were bullied and “treated like objects”.

Some of the allegations will be revisited in a BBC documentary, Disclosure: The Truth About BrewDog, due to air on Monday evening.

But in fresh posts on BrewDog’s “Equity for Punks” forum, the company’s chief executive, James Watt, appeared to attempt to warn sources who gave evidence to the BBC that their identities could be exposed.

Hmmm. The worst thing about them was their quality control/consistency. At it's best marianna trench is a stunning beer, but I've regularly had pints that were 'okayish'.

I don't think any of the corporates are looking at them - there's been a few burnt fingers recently, so it'll be interesting to see who, if anyone, buys them

I read an article on the history of Harp which pointed out that when it was originally launched, they made a genuine effort to make an authentic German Lager (albeit slightly weaker) German head brewer, correct yeast, hops and malt, decently lagered. Within a few years they were discussing whether they could cut down the lagering from 2 weeks to 10 days :lolno:
