No not a bogey team just a better team. They were ranked no. 1 or higher us since our last series against each other. We also lost a home series 2-zip to Sri Lanka.Big Nipper wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:25 amAh, so a hypothetical bogey teamFalseBayFC wrote: Wed Feb 09, 2022 9:16 amWe're lucky to have escaped them over the Covid era. Now ODI's is a different story. They're absolutely a bogey team for us in knockout games. 91, 2003,2007,2011,2015 and 2019 they beat us. Despite the Proteas having a stronger unit and ranking in all but the 2019 competitions. Bi-lateral series ODI,T20s and Tests we have a healthy win ratio against them.

Proteas must be wary of the overtly green surfaces in New Zealand, says bowling coach Charl Langeveldt
By Zaahier Adams Time of article published 4h ago
Cape Town - Don’t judge a book by its cover. Or as is the case in New Zealand be wary of the overtly green surfaces, says Proteas bowling coach Charl Langeveldt.
Pitches in the land of the long white cloud have become notorious in recent times with many on social media branding it “Welcome to Wimbledon” in reference to it resembling the famously manicured lawns of London’s famous tennis tournament. But Langeveldt believes all this hype is often deceptive and has warned his bowling unit ahead of the first Test against the Black Caps at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday not to get too excited.
“It can be misleading,” Langeveldt said on Monday. “That’s how New Zealand wickets are. It looks green, and probably with the new ball it does swing and seam a bit, but then it gets easier once the ball gets old.
“We spoke long and hard about it when we got here. The discussion was about getting used to the overcast conditions too. When the sun is out, it is a bit easier. The ball doesn’t swing and nip. The grass colour does change, but we will focus on bowling a bit fuller. We are usually 6-8 metres with the new ball, but here we’ll be about 51/2-6. But then I’ve always said the guys need to adapt. We need to make them play with the new ball. It is all about being adaptable.”
Langeveldt, though, is confident his charges will be game ready, especially after having their first taste of the Hagley Oval conditions on Monday since being discharged from a 10-day quarantine period.
The former Proteas swing-bowler was particularly impressed with Jansen during the workout, with the rookie seemingly buoyed by his recent R8.5 million Indian Premier League deal with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“He (Jansen) is looking good. He is bowling that fuller length, hitting the stumps. For someone that tall he actually hits the stumps quite a lot,” Langeveldt said.
“He also has that aggressive side, as we saw with that (Jasprit) Bumrah incident. I term it “white-line” fever because he’s the most laid back guy off the field, but when he gets on it he is very aggressive. He is bowling well, swinging the ball, and straightening it off the seam.
“He is actually very mature in a cricketing sense. His cricket brain is very good. He’s very knowledgeable and he adapts quickly. He is a good listener and asks good questions.”

Conway certainly wasted no time to reacquaint himself with his former countrymen, particularly a certain Temba Bavuma, whom he made his South African first-class debut alongside as 17-year-old St John's school boy.
“It's been a long time since I made my debut playing alongside Temba, but it was good to see him at breakfast this morning [at the hotel] and have a small catch up,” he said.
“You've got Devon and Neil Wagner, so we've got a couple of people who were born in South Africa, but from our perspective they're true blue Kiwis now and even though they might have slight accents at times they're certainly working hard for the Silver Fern playing for our team as well," Stead said.
I think Henry can deliver at this level. It would be interesting to look at his longest run of tests - without checking I would be surprised if he’s gone more than three (and even that would be rare). It’s a step down from Boult but I think he’s better than his stats.

Will be a big mistake if Proteas opt for an all seam attack. Can't play test cricket without a spinner Maharaj is an experienced test player and an excellent night watchman.
I think Maharaj bowled around 30 overs in the entire India series. Whilst I prefer a spinner to play in most tests, what's the use if we're not going to use him?OomStruisbaai wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 6:56 am Will be a big mistake if Proteas opt for an all seam attack. Agreed, if we're not going to use Maharaj, then yes, Markram and Elgar can do a job for us.FalseBayFC wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:18 amMarkram can do a job for us with the ball.handyman wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:05 amI think Maharaj bowled around 30 overs in the entire India series. Calling Elgar and Markram a waste of space in the Protea 11 is a bit controversial. Elgar is our captain and one of our best batsman over the last few years. Markram has not kicked on yet, but some would say it's only a matter of time. I am a fan and would give him another shot this series.

He was included vs India and in 3 tests bowled 32 overs. Why pick him if Elgar and Boucher are not going to use him?Gumboot wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:29 amJust include a specialist spinner and let the batters bat.handyman wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:16 amCalling Elgar and Markram a waste of space in the Protea 11 is a bit controversial. It's just stupid to go in a test without a specialist spinner. The All rounder to replace Maharaj is Wiaan Mulder who have a lower test batting average then the spinner.Gumboot wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:29 amJust include a specialist spinner and let the batters bat.handyman wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:16 amCalling Elgar and Markram a waste of space in the Protea 11 is a bit controversial. How many overs did Aswin (one of the best in world cricket) bowled and wickets did he take against us?handyman wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:44 amHe was included vs India and in 3 tests bowled 32 overs. Ashwin bowled 64 overs, taking 5 wickets, but once again, you are missing the point spectacularly. In principle I agree that we need to play a spinner most of the times, but what is the use if he is not really going to bowl?OomStruisbaai wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:50 amHow many overs did Aswin (one of the best in world cricket) bowled and wickets did he take against us?

Well he's now our premier batsman albeit in woeful form but I'll back him to come right. Yeah him and Elgar can do a Kane Williamson/Joe Root type job for us.
Just checked the last 10 tests at the Hagley Oval. As far as I can see Ajaz Patel and Ish Sohdi have each played one test and taken no wickets. Jadeja got 2 for India in a match.
I'd not bother with a spinner on this track. Rabada, Jansen, Olivier and Ngidi are a varied enough attack. I'm worried about our batting line-up and if anything I'd sub in Wiaan Mulder for Olivier to shore it up.
If we are not bothering with a spinner, then Mulder can play in Maharaj's place or we can pick another batsman.FalseBayFC wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 9:44 amWell he's now our premier batsman albeit in woeful form but I'll back him to come right. It's all very well, saying that Maharaj is a waste of a test space because he didn't bowl any overs, but you have to recognise that, in the last 2 tests, the Indian innings never got much further than 250 (or thereabouts, without looking up the stats).
Generally, a spinner is used in the latter stages of an innings and to give the seamers a bit of a rest if the wicket isn't turning, but if the innings barely gets above 80 overs, then the spinner isn't going to get much work outside of a couple of overs before lunch, tea or stumps.
Expecting the NZ batsmen to wilt before our mighty seam attack could possibly be seen as arrogance.

In the last 18 innings of Test cricket at Hagley Park there have been 14 wickets taken by spinners. Best result was Nathan Lyon with a 3-fer. A few of the wickets were Joe Root or Williamson bowling their part timers. No way Maharaj should play. NZ almost never play a specialist spinner on that pitch.Rinkals wrote: Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:48 pm It's all very well, saying that Maharaj is a waste of a test space because he didn't bowl any overs, but you have to recognise that, in the last 2 tests, the Indian innings never got much further than 250 (or thereabouts, without looking up the stats).

That’s the thing. I don’t have it on as couldn’t find on sky.
Just the noisy bastard wind keeping me awake.
