From a NZ perspective a couple of medals again would be nice - and should be realistic.

Apparently it's the same all over the western world. Advertisers would normally be pumping this for months in the lead up but none of them want to be associated with China. When advertisers do enter the fray they are careful not to mention China, which must be fairly difficult.

We'll be watching. A reasonably good time slot and several Kiwis looking strong in boarding, free skiing, and of course Alice in the Super G and GS, although her progress and prep has been hampered by Covid.

These are the first Winter Olympics that will rely nearly entirely on fake snow. Some may suggest that giving a place that can’t produce sufficient natural snow the Winter Olympics was akin to granting the World Cup to Qatar. I couldn’t possibly comment.

An acquaintance of mine is on the BOA. Apparently there has never been any country (including China itself) who has so blatantly tried to make life difficult for other countries and advantage its own athletes. It is so bad that there have been threats of withdrawal from prominent nations. Pretty much everyone is finding it hard to deal with China, including advertisers and sponsors who are unimpressed at demands to portray China in a positive light.

On the other hand, the BOA is working closely with Paris. The French and British Associations have good relations and the French are happily using British knowledge and expertise where appropriate. Having been to many games, he believes that Paris will be the most visually spectacular ever, and is also looking like being one of the best games all round ever.

I've typically watch some of the Winter Olympics. Haven't spent a second on this one because fuck China.

If viewing figures don't materialise then perhaps they won't be given anything in the future.
