I can't remember the name of the film but it had Tom Selleck in as someone that was framed by the police on a drugs bust at the wrong house. Stuff of nightmares.

Just finished HBO's Station Eleven and its outstanding. It's a weird and wonderful post-apocalyptic affair which is superbly acted and directed. I was hesitant to give it a go because the premise sounded a bit silly but freaking loved it.

I have been curious about this because I really rated the book that it is based on.

Up to episode 2.... gotta say it's pretty uninspiring so far.... does it get a lot better then?

Reminds me of "Revolution" from a few years back... I only watched that cause the lead was cute...

Finished watching 'The Expanse', I have plenty of reservations about the series but that was a pretty good finale with closure and TBH ending the arc from the book 'Babylon's Ashes' felt like an end point with the next book acting as a restart with a new story. The only reason I can think of for the Laconia scenes, which added next to nothing of import, is leaving just enough of a teaser open to be able to resume the series at some point if Amazon or someone else takes it on - maybe a mini-series or feature film rather like 'Serenity' was for 'Firefly'.

Sorry, I don't know. I got it from a mate.... up to episode 5 now. It's got a bit better. But still quite annoying...

I am trying to think if there has ever been a good post apocalyptic tv series? Some decent films.. but I can't remember a decent tv series? I greatly dislike anything with zombies in it.

In case you're not feeling old enough. South Park Season 25 has just launched. I was 29 when it premiered. The Simpsons aired season 1 in 1989. I can remember it pretty clearly. It was shown on VHS on our TV on the border at our army base in South West Africa/Namibia. We were packing up to go just before independence of Namibia was declared.

2 episodes in Reacher so far and enjoying it. It's not hardly top notch acting or script but enjoyable non the less.

Yeah, in the same boat. It’s pretty simple with simple characters. Main character is s bit too perfect (as books tend to create). Same with Jack Ryan, Robert Langdon type characters. Smart appearing, guesses/instinct always right 100%.

But it’s enjoyable nonetheless.

I can't remember who it was, but whoever recommended Spiral... The French version of The Wire. Thank you. Watched all the seasons and loved it. Much more watchable than The Wire for me

I just cancelled my Prime sub, I have 'til the end of the month to watch anything I haven't got through yet.

I'm on the third ep, it's decent enough fare. Never read any of the books, but dimly aware of the character and it seem like they got the casting right enough. Alan Ritchson's a pretty massive bugger, albeit not quote 6'5.

Willa Fitzgerald's not exactly hard on the eyes. Last thing I saw her in was the godawful Scream TV show, bit of a change.

I watched episode 1 thought ok. Episode 2 just changed to shite, some stupid acting travelling production or whatever the fvck it was. Utter crap. I’ve binned it, along with the free Amazon trial of starz play or whatever it is.

I stuck with it. Like you I nearly gave up after a couple of episodes. But then I started getting into it more... Its a strange one. But definitely a grower...

Ms MungoSpouse & I have been watching it for a longish while, i.e. when it was first shown on FTA TV in Straya, and via on-demand services more recently. We both think it's a hoot and we're both Strayan-born.

Live action although I don't know how they could manage the Big Daddies except for animatronics / CGI

Anyone watching "This is Going to Hurt" on the BBC? The book was excellent and very very funny at times, but pretty harrowing at others. I found the first episode of the TV adaptation to reflect the book in terms of being a pretty tough watch (it's definitely not for the squeamish), but less of the humour - only one genuine laugh out loud moment. Not sure I'll continue with it - not because it's not very well done - it is, but because there might not be enough levity to offset the harrowing parts.

If anyone hasn't read the book, it's highly recommended (perhaps not for those who are around child-producing age though (it's about a doctor on obs & gynae) - leave it until you've got that all out of the way, then read it).

Adam Kay's other book (Twas the Nightshift before Christmas) is excellent too, and he is also a fine advocate for the NHS.

Any other views (especially from the medics of this parish)?

Not read the book but the MiL has and has similar views as you. I'm dubious about some of the content from what ive seen so far.

Also think he comes across as quite a bit of a dick at times. I realise I'm looking at this from a perspective 15 years on but I've seen similar attitudes from "mentors" over the last 8 years and never been impressed. And it's not as if my threshold to harsh leadership/mentorship is low.

Yeah, he definitely comes across as a dick, though given the way the consultant treats him, it's probably not a surprise. In the book, he doesn't come across as a dick, though that's probably because it's his diary.

First two episode out. This is a great show so far. Adam Scott from Parks and Rec, John Torturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette.

A clever, dystopic comedy drama.

I'm really enjoying ITV's Ipcress File. Its retro styling is great fun and pays homage to the original with Michael Caine. Cast includes the excellent Tom Hollander, Joe Cole (John Shelby from Peaky Blinders) and Lucy Boynton. If you like cold war thriller then I recommend this highly.

Just happened to stumble upon Mr Inbetween buried deep in the Disney plus archives. Snaffled all 3 seasons in a few days - hugely enjoyable. Pretty rare to find something of this genre with such top drawer performances and direction…
