I didn't want to post in National threads, but a year out from the World Cup there's already a number of Countries fans looking to ditch the coaches, & the same names keep on coming up; but the problem is that there's less names than the number of vacancies ?

So if Scotland are to have any chance of signing Robertson up, they need to act now, before Eddie gets the elbow, & England break out their wallet. Similarly Wales, if they're going to deep six Pivac, & maybe sign Edwards, they have to move fast. .... and then there's New Zealand ...

There are four Tier 1 sides all unsatisfied with where they are, & do they dare wait till after the World Cup before they go shopping, & potentially find all the best coaches are signed up already ?

I'd say Robertson's a tough acquisition. Everyone wants him and presume he can take his pick at this stage.

One more year the All Blacks are up for grabs.

Bet on the SRU sticking with Toony until we fail abjectly at the RWC, and then not being able to find a decent replacement afterwards. And probably appointing Mike Blair, for whom it would be far too early.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

How acrimonious was the split with Cotter ?

I thought he was doing well enough to be kept, but Toony pulled a bit of a stroke, the way EOS did with Gatland.

Farrell Snr might be available if we have our traditional implosion, & ROG makes his move.

....

but knowing the RFU they'll probably give it to Farrell Jr

He certainly was, but the SRU didn’t want to lose Toony and so didn’t renew VC’s contract. He had something of a hero’s farewell, which was remarked on as being a bit odd given that national coaches usually leave after results fall off and they get the sack.

At the time when comparing overall records, Cotter was the most winning-est Scotland coach of all time, his spell second only to Geech's first spell. A great turnaround from Scott Johnsons 31% and a wooden spoon in his 1st 6N. Toony has upped the win rate slightly but does seem to be short of answers now.

Rumour has it that Townsend told the SRU he was done with Glasgow at the end of that season then it all fell into place.

Has rugby gone well away from anyone who wasn't a pro?

I think ex-pros are still a minority in the NFL and there's increasing respect for college and even high school coaches who are more aware of a wider variety of schemes / are more creative. https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2019/10/2 ... -matt-nagy

Rugby's completely devoid of this now with everyone basically running variations of pod play that have forwards clogging up the middle and backs often confined to using the outer third of the pitch or playing behind a screen of forwards. It's often so predictable, but defenses - while stifling for the one-out play - still hasn't consistently figured out how to shut down the second man play. I said years ago they should be watching NFL to figure out ways to incorporate blitzes - which you occasionally see, like ...

With Rassie going to England, the Springbok job will be available.
