Rhona hurt our school sport for the last two years. In South Africa school sport is a big thing. The top rugby schools travel far and they will do for exc soccer/debatting/chess/socccer/hockey ect against each other riding with the 1st team rugby on the Saturday. All the pupils and parents attend and support in all the sport ending with a crowd of 10,000 plus at the rugby. Paarl Interschools have a crowd of 30 000 +.

In South Africa only the Gauteng schools play competitions. Affies however withdraw from this.

It's more important to get mass participation for the top rugby schools. The biggest schools have 20 + rugby , 6+ soccer , 15 hockey+ teams playing each other from Friday to saturday.
Some schools include chess, surfing, Xbox, tennis, water polo, cycling, golf and cross country running.

I love this, especially coming from the North American 'varsity' system where schools only have one team per age band (at most). Typically, in Canada, you'll get the 'junior' team for Grades 9 and 10, 'senior' for 11 and 12. Sometimes girls (and boys in smaller areas) either don't get enough for both or there's not enough junior opponents locally if they do, so there will be a 'varsity' team for Gr 9-12 (less likely for contact sports, but does exist for a lot of girls XVs).

If SA would play in competition, this two Bok factories would have clashed mostly.

For some reason (maybe because Grey College is a boy school) they never played the usual interschools (teams from all age groups) against each other.

Last night they produce the best rugby for the year.
