European Cup w/c 8 April Catch-All Thread
Of course he's emotionally fragile, you've observed it yourself. I remember a game against Wales a few years back, 2018 or 19 I think and he totally lost it. It affected his goal kicking, game direction, he didn't stop waving his arms about, bitching at his teammates, the ref etc. Ireland got stuffed.

First of all, Leinster didn't play Wales in either 2018 or 2019. In fact I don't recall Leinster ever playing Wales (maybe back in the nineteen-diggities, but I'd doubt it).
Ireland won the grand slam in 2018, but yes we were stuffed in 2019. Sexton being a moany cunt because we were losing, does not in any way mean that we were losing because he was a moany cunt. Go back and watch the game. I'm also not for one second arguing that he hasn't ever had a bad game, but I'm sure they are somehow evidence that he was "got at" and that he's the "weak link" and "emotionally unstable"!!! You haven't a clue.
But this is pointless - it's like arguing with Bimbo or Mick and it's stinking up this thread something awful (apologies all).

Those two things are not within light years of being the same thing

We have a difference of opinion, it's called dialogue. I know on the Ireland threat you're used to everyone agreeing with each other but people have different opinions to the Irish out in the big world. Sexton is definitely on the tactics board as a player to get into as he has form for losing his head.
You're welcome.
I'll preface what I'm about to say with the fact that I'm happy with Finn Russell as Scotland's fly half, but I would bite yer arm off for Sexton's consistency and professionalism
He was world player of the year and a six test Lion.
I was looking up stats for him and something surprised me, it's nothing to do with this part of the conversation, but in the all time leading points scoring lists, Carter is top, Wilko next etc Sexton 7th, but the stat that jumped out at me was Wilkinson on 36 drop goals. Two Argentinans are next with Porta on 28 Dominguez on 20.
Another stat that speaks volumes is Carter's 293 conversions, the next is O'Gara on 176.
Carter also scored 29 tries of his own.
The ABs during the Carter/McCaw period really were something else.

Gibson-Parks was cited post match and cleared by an ERC ddisciplinary panel yesterday. The yellow card was apparently penalty enough|!!!!sockwithaticket wrote: Fri Apr 08, 2022 11:16 pm Karl Dickson ballsing up a red card decision? Surely not.
It's fucking pathetic that he's reffing at such a high level in general, but especially when he gets these so badly wrong.
He's not the only one to have used force/danger to issue a yellow rather than a red, but this at least the third time he's issued yellow for what a season and a half ago would have been a stone cold red. It'll be interesting to see if this one gets cited.
In general, I hate the addition of force/danger to the framework. For all but the softest of passive soak tackles, it shouldn't be mitigation.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. Simply cannot fathom it, especially when the Porter one from Tigers - Clermont was upheld. Not that I think the ref got that one wrong, but I'd argue that a player running up into a passing lane upright is far less reckless than leading with the shoulder and staying upright in the tackle. Also likely to be far less forceful too, so, if that's a red, then the the Gibson-Park incident definitely is. Although apparently not.SaintK wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 2:13 pmGibson-Parks was cited post match and cleared by an ERC ddisciplinary panel yesterday. Meanwhile WP Nel gets cited and suspended for a relatively innocuous looking collision.SaintK wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 2:13 pmGibson-Parks was cited post match and cleared by an ERC ddisciplinary panel yesterday. Surprised JGP didn't see red on the day, but I could understand Dickson's reasoning as he went through it. Didn't quite agree with the reasoning, but I could see where he was coming from.
All seems a bit odd though to be cited and then cleared. It's as if the powers that be are constantly in disagreement with themselves - not a great look really.

I'm unhappy with the result of the citing but I think it's fair that a citing be cleared - a citing shouldn't be a guaranteed ban because what's the point? It's just someone with the time and knowledge looking at videos and going "I think this is worthy of further sanction" and passing it on to a group of people to make the final decision, taking into account any further evidence and testimony as well as giving the accused the chance to defend themself. Otherwise it's just a kangaroo court.PornDog wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:45 pm Surprised JGP didn't see red on the day, but I could understand Dickson's reasoning as he went through it. Ah I agree really, it's just if someone was red carded, cited and then cleared it seems somewhat more consistent than being cleared (which Dickson effectively did), then cited and then cleared again.JM2K6 wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:03 pmI'm unhappy with the result of the citing but I think it's fair that a citing be cleared - a citing shouldn't be a guaranteed ban because what's the point? Once you start with a medium degree of danger, which it was as JGP was retreating, YC is the starting point.PornDog wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:45 pm Surprised JGP didn't see red on the day, but I could understand Dickson's reasoning as he went through it. I don't think any sane person is debating that claim.Kawazaki wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 5:31 pm Dan Carter is the flyhalf GOAT, better than Wilkinson, Lynagh, and all those chubby Welsh 10s from the 60s and 70s. O'Gara and Sexton aren't even near the conversation.
The 3 European home games were always part of the season ticket so makes sense that this is as well but still good of them to not charge it as an extra.Biffer wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 10:28 am Leicester including Saturday's home European game as part of the season ticket. Good on them.
Most season tickets include the group games but not knockout matches. This is a great gesturepetej wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 10:47 amThe 3 European home games were always part of the season ticket so makes sense that this is as well but still good of them to not charge it as an extra.Biffer wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 10:28 am Leicester including Saturday's home European game as part of the season ticket.
