An hour ago I read on Rugby Heaven NZ that he had died.
I came here expecting a thread, but nothing.
Any confirmation?

He first came to our attention as the youthful blond captain of the touring 1965 Boks.
All the girls in my Form 6 class had a massive crush on him.

He captained the Boks in the 1970 series defeat of NZ in South Africa.
One of our greatest Bok foes.

The vivid memories of those tests are of the fearsome Bok loosies Greyling and Ellis, with that thuggish lock who boxed halfback Laidlaw into a dizzy daze right at the start of the first test, enabling the Boks to rack up an unassailable lead while Laidlaw wobbled around on the field for far too long. Du Preez?

Yes he has passed. He was a great servant to the game. The Pedrie Wannenburg tragedy sought of overshadowed it in the news.

I posted on PR. One of my childhood heroes. Remember him leading Boland vs WP in the first ever CC semi final. Boland led 11-3 at some time but HO de Villiers (also died a few months ago)scoring the winning try just before full time for WP.

Both of them become Springbok legends.

I loved watching him as skipper of the 1965 Boks in the series vs All Blacks.
