What part of NZ do you live in? The naming was done in a Samoan Fale , and so was following the protocols that suited the place. It didn't affect the naming as all stuff was done before 12 when the team was named.
It should never have been held there in the first place. Inclusive - not! Massive fail.
Well I ask again what part of the country do you live in where you didn't know the naming was being done in the Fale, and you get upset at what happens before naming. The team naming was stated as being at 12 oçlock, there was nothing but team naming from that time. Why is it not inclusive to have a greeting in Maori, an Island cultural thing and then the team was named in English? What must of really got you upset the team was going to be read out by a WOMAN, Farrah Palmer was meant to do it but weather caused her flight to be postponed.
Geez I thought I was an old grouchy bugger, but your red neck seems to of trumped me no end.
There have been namings done from Maraes, schools etc too over the years, it doesn't have to be done in hall with an English style ceremony .
Dan, Gumboot's specific complaint was...

Highly offensive and inappropriate, imo.

about the religious programming... not any ethnic angle.

I agree with him. Religious bullshit can fuck right off.

Didn't Foster say in an interview earlier in the year they were going to put emphasis on being more dominant at the breakdown? Or did I have a nightmare?

Mate to me religiious stuff can f*** off to, but it as part of the cultural thing of having it in a Fale is what you do , and I not someone who thinks everyone has to have my culture etc.

But this is what he said:

And that's not an ethnic angle complaint?

It had nothing to do with naming of team, and wasn't going to be shown to start with as originally it was only going to be shown from 12 when team was named. And he was going crook about so called inclusiveness, which it is. Why the hell did you even watch the build up for anyway? It was clearly said that team naming was at 12, and there wasn't one religious thing mentioned from advertised time of naming of team.
Guess I just don't find reasons to get upset as some of you as I genuinely just ignored the religious stuff as I was only there waiting for 12 oclock team naming!! Hell I could of got upset at dancers or anything, but it wasn't why I was watching.
F*** me they could of just slammed it up on the screen, and it was posted on NZStuff as team was read out.

OK I get your point Dan, and maybe I shouldn't have put it like that. But my objection was entirely to do with all the Christian palaver involved and NOTHING to do with ethnicity. Religion shouldn't play any part in such an event imho. NZ is a secular country.

Fair enough mate, I get pretty anti when I think (rightly or wrongly) that anyone should think that a Fale (or Marae etc) is not the place to have an AB team announcement, as the last thing we need in this country is seperation and do like everyone to be involved at different stages, and we are in the middle of celebrating Pasific Island languages and cultures.
Also although I dislike religious angle a bit, it wasn't part of the naming anyway, and originally the link wasn't meant to be until 12 AFTER all that has finished, but in last couple of days someone who was broadcasting it etc decided to start 11.45 , and I didn't really watch that anywy, as when a build up is not my thing (including at games) I just don't bother with it.

Yep, that advertised 11.45 start time was the initial problem. I was expecting the usual Sky talking heads speculating on the likely make-up of the squad, possible bolters, etc... instead we were subjected to a fucking church sermon for 15 minutes. The least Sky should've done was have some sort of "viewer discretion advised" warning at the outset. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next team-naming event being hosted by the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Purely in the interests of fairness and balance, of course.

I much prefer that just go to team naming etc, I see no point on having a panel telling us who they think will be in team, but I know Sky etc like to pad everything out.
Generally with games I think they can cut out 80% of prematch shows, just tell us who is playing perhaps a quick interview with coch of each team, and no panels shows etc.
I a bit of a fan of no bullshit beforehand, don't mind after match etc.

I've been thinking about getting one printed with the words Disgruntled Former Employee.
