Some of the dimmest 7s I've seen in a while from both Fiji and NZ. And WTF Fiji were doing at the end with 7 against 5

Wow, South Africa really dominating the final - starving Fiji of possession, intelligent use of the ball and look very fit. Fiji when they do get the ball look tired.
And then Fiji score LOL. Makes no difference, a very well deserved gold for the Blitzbokke

Glad for Neil Powell. He deserves a golden goodbye. Our Blits were magical in this tournament. Good to see Muller du Plessis play that well.

Was going to ask if there was much hype for this amongst South Africans. Looking forward to following it as best I can here in the UK.

Hope they don't piss under the trees like the Boks in AustraliaSards wrote: Tue Sep 06, 2022 4:29 pm Lots of excitement in Cape Town with the 7s.
The Samoans and French have been practicing at my son's school. So you can imagine the fun and stories the kids are coming home with. And the posed pictures for fb

Will be well supported like usual. Weather nice with rain on Sunday.
The school is closing early every day to give the teams time to practice. Great for my son. Friday they are closing early to give the kids a chance to get to the stadium. Milnerton has great spot lights too. Oh. And we just recently beat Paarl Boys hightabascoboy wrote: Tue Sep 06, 2022 4:36 pm Was going to ask if there was much hype for this amongst South Africans. Like usual? Cape Town has terrible fan attendance. Look at the Lions series. The stadium was virtually empty for all three tests.

7s are usually sell outs in Cape Town unlike Durban.

I treat Sards at the 7s in George with VIP tickets , free drinks mixing with the players and coaches a few years ago. Was a great experience. Oom wil braai at home with a Castle Long Neck or 2.

Have to recondition well before the URC starts next week. Looking forward to this.
That was before you became old and senile. I still love you for that experience. We stayed over at the Oak tree guest house for the weekend. Lovely place . Very elegant and stylish. We were served meals in a private dining room.OomStruisbaai wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:01 pmI treat Sards at the 7s in George with VIP tickets , free drinks mixing with the players and coaches a few years ago. The bedroom was medieval with the huge 4 poster bed and lush white linen bedding. You just want to jump into it and get swallowed up. There was a restaurant on the bottom corner of the main road where you turned left toward the stadium. Best chicken schnitzel ever. Very decent meals in general. Very elegant. Our go to for the 2 nights. Full with stay over spectators. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Loved that stadium. We did the 7s there every year till kids.
The contestants had tents behind the stadium so you would always get them mingling around the stadium and with the public.
Ouboet dropped me right into the shit there. He never told me it was a VIP pass, or I didn't listen properly. So we pull into the tented section on the boundary of the stadium. Our first thought was....what a spread.....definitely VIP heaven. Most people dressed in suits except the athletes ( as in coaches and players). There were ministers all over the show. Top brass from SARU..celebrity players....
The buffet was top notch the way it was presented. Waitresses serving drinks.
Here I walk in, short pants and slops , t shirt and peak. My go to gear .
Anyway we find ourselves a spot as far away from everyone as possible. Right on the boundary fence. The Waitress comes around and hands each of us a bag full of goodies and takes our drinks order. It was a great goodies bag. I still have the T shirts , scarves etc. So we get settled and I ask my wife if I should get her something to eat. I get up and walk to the buffet. Notice noone else is eating. Get to the table and pick up 2 plates. Look around. People are looking at me strangely. I just dig in and take the 2 plates to my wife and we get stuck in. Suddenly there's a big fan fare and this major minister of sport arrives . They are seated and then get up to eat. When they get up everyone gets up to go eat. I had vokked up so badly. The whole time I am just praying that this does not go back to Ouboet.

Remember GMan? Also got tickets for him. Big Lions supporter. He lives now in Somerset West.
I spent the one year in the Richelieu tent with G Man and a few other old time boerdies from Silverfern. I got smashed. So badly.OomStruisbaai wrote: Wed Sep 07, 2022 2:39 pm Remember GMan? Also got tickets for him. Big Lions supporter. He lives now in Somerset West.
We really enjoyed that year.
7s really has changed for us since George. George was a chance to get away and have fun. Here you worry about getting parking and are home after the games. It's just not the same

Laaities love 7s with all its hype. I like seeing the Springbok and Stormers players mixing with the crowd , taking selfies, ext after the matches. remember Schalk Burger use to spend hours after matches doing this. Except Nic White, expect him to be the new Naas Botha favourate in South Africa.
Wanted to go with my old man, but couldn't get tickets in the first two rounds.
Last round I could get tickets, by the seats were kak and they were 3x as expensive as for the normal Seven World Series, so I gave it a pass.
Got offered 2 tickets at work this morning, but it's too late now for my dad to fly down so I gave it a pass.
I'm interested to see if it is as well attended as in the past, but given the steep price increase for the tickets I'm skeptical.
My CT family tried to get tickets today but they've been told it is completely sold out.Blake wrote: Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:29 pm I'm interested to see if it is as well attended as in the past, but given the steep price increase for the tickets I'm skeptical.
Then I stand corrected.
It's definitely a hot ticket for the weekend, but I just wasn't prepared to fork out the money for the seats that were available.
I thought there would be more people that felt the same, but obviously people still have some disposable income to burn in these parts.
I just hope the crowd stays for the final. A couple of years back when the Blitzboks lost the semi-final against NZ half the crowd fucked off and it completely killed the vibe. Given the BB's inconsistent outings lately, I am not expecting them to reach the final (although I hope that they do).
Collecting the kids ( 3 boys ) from Milnerton school at 1. Going through to the 7s with a stop on the way. We want to be there for the men's matches. Lovely day here today. Going to be fun with 3 teenagers. We paid R150 a ticket at my son's school. They were given an allocation. Not really important where the seats are. It's just for the vibe
