I've become quite the royalist in the last few years. Probably spurred on by the complete lack of inspirational leaders in the world today.

I hope she has a good send-off, and this brings the British people together.

Seven members of the Royal House on a flight to Aberdeen - presumably essential staff for the preparations and organisation of London Bridge.

As long as we're not expected to have life come to a standstill for days and days, let those who wish to grieve do so but please no mass hysteria as with Diana.

Not Monday, I hope, the plumber's starting work on the bathroom and I have a dentist's appointment, and Christ knows when I'll get another.

Have a mate who works in the House of Lords - reckons there's an announcement due in the next 30 mins or so. Take that with as much salt as you like

More third-hand probably bollocks news. Just spoke the Mrs, one of the teachers at her school has an ex-husband who works on the logistics of organising state events and suchlike, she said he's already been informed of the death.

I hope she recovers from her illness, whatever that may be.
As others have said, Elizabeth II has earned lots of respect with her work ethic and dedication to the role, and also to manage her personal life and opinions for all that time.
Obviously she has the benefit of a life lived in riches and palaces, but to not be able to be open about your opinions and stick to your role whilst in the middle of national and international players and systems must be challenging.

However, I do wish the media wouldn't start this public mourning process before it's due.
She is a 96 year old lady, of course she isn't likely to be in great health, and we all have an expiration date.
Her family going to see her is obviously showing that she's not doing well, but let's not start grieving whilst she's still alive.

(and yes, I'm sure there are rumours she's already died, but those rumours have been here before and weren't true, so let's just wait and see)

The media are making this into a macabre circus.
Just let the family grieve the passing of their matriach ffs

I hope we can all have that sort of choice. I realise Geo V may not have made the decision himself.

Hope the kids all managed to get there in time to say goodbye.

PS: well done to her as well for doing her duties with a smile and upright a mere 48 hours ago.

God Save the King.

I think he will exceed expectations in the role.

If nothing else she held out long enough to stop Johnson getting to grandstand.

How strange, never did I think I'd get even remotely emotional about her passing and here I am truly saddened. RIP ma'am.

It does feel like something irreplaceable has been lost.

Whatever we think about monarchy, she was a deeply impressive person. RIP.

An incredible and deeply impressive human being, whatever your views on the monarchy. There is so much that is embarrassing and crap about Britain these days, but she was something to be proud of.

I’m far more moved than I had expected, feels like my favourite gran just died.

RIP ma’am

I'm a soft advocate of moving to a republic. But HM did embody all the qualities of a good head of state that made my republicanism fairly weak and theoretical.

RIP, She was the last of a Generation, & her death marks the passing of an age.

On the cynical side; keep an eye out for the amount of important stories being buried over the next few days, while the UK is distracted !
