There is still a strong 'doff the cap' to your betters mentality, in parts of England predominately, where folk think that the posh Lord of the Manor has a god given right to be in charge and tell them what to do. They enjoy their serfdom. If he also seems a 'jolly chap' and makes them laugh then even better. This runs parallel with an innate belief in these people that ordinary folk aren't capable of being in charge and running the country, they don't have the posh education, and if they try and they must be 'Socialists or Communists' or suchlike. The Blonde Bumblecunt plays the jolly Lord of the Manor role very well. In parts of the country however, such as Scotland, this mentality has disappeared and the explains why the likes of the Fat Slug are seen with utter contempt and explains why he shits himself every time he comes north of the border and visits are carefully controlled. He has done more walkabouts in Kiev than he has in Scotland. He is a Cnut.

I’ve been saying this for ages, although I think it’s a bit more subtle - people are conditioned to think that people with a posh accent are smarter than them, and have their interests at heart. It manifests in many ways, not least that when you see people who are from regions of England in positions of prominence, e.g. academics, other experts, even actors, they have in many cases lost their accent to be taken more seriously. Most people don’t even know they have that attitude, but it’s doubled down on at every opportunity. Remember all the nonsense that’s been said about Johnson, and indeed Mogg, about how incredibly clever they were under the ‘facade’? It’s obvious pish but people lap it up because they’re posh so they believe it. People want to believe it because British society is organised that way, so they just automatically go that way. It’s all subconscious, and it’s not really managed from anywhere, but it’s one of the fundamental things wrong with the UK.

Edit - and you’re right that it’s far less prevalent in Scotland; partly because a certain ‘type’ of Scottish accent was always viewed in the same way, and also because the Scottish parliament has let us see and hear more of our own accents being our politicians and leaders. That’s also true in Wales now, they hear Welsh voices talking about health, the economy, etc. But if you try doing that on TV with a Birmingham accent, or West Country, or East Anglian, or Geordie, you won’t be taken seriously.

There are rumors that he’s told his key donors that he’s not going to stand as it would be humiliating for him to announce his candidacy and then fail to get 100 backers.
