Agreed depending on when booked but you don't have to pay it. The margins are ludicrously small these days particularly for the likes of BA as they haven't unpicked all the proper job bits that cabin crew have.

Less than half full flights down and home from London this week. Must be making a massive loss considering we only paid £120 return.

Was speaking to a girl last night who was BA cabin crew pre pandemic and loved it. She lost her job and went into something else but got drawn back and started again 3 weeks ago. Quit yesterday and said it was absolutely awful, treated like shit, everyone she met trying to find away out, no one had any pride in the job any longer etc

To be fair, despite all the problems we had with BA, the staff couldn't have been nicer.

We actually flew down and up to London this weekend and BA couldn't have been better. Cheap, punctual and nice half full flights in and out of City Airport

I take that flight a fair bit and it's been pretty much plain sailing, although it's been full to the rafters every time - you must be timing it better than me!

The acid test of an airline and their staff is generally when things go wrong, and I thought no-one could possibly be worse than Ryanair (they actually take perverse pride in being arses) but there's a few airlines that seem to be stooping quite close to their level. Id' be sad to hear that BA might be heading that way, although I know general staff and skill shortages have caused service issues which has led to a whole vicious circle of overloaded staff having to fix issues whilst dealing with angry customers.

Best airlines quality for value for me would be Emirates, Singapore and Virgin.

Gatwick. But it felt so cheap too, with the food and drinks. Especially compared to the Emirates business lounge also in Gatwick. I think I’ve been to a Heathrow BA lounge as well.

I exclude the Emirates Dubai one, as I’m not actually a fan of that - too big. And a lot of the seating is cafe like.

I wouldn’t go near them for European flights as I’d have to transfer at Heathrow. KLM or Lufthansa.

Totally agree with this, I haven't been through Heathrow in at least 10 years and my life is immeasurably better for it.

Some colleagues travelled from Schiphol last week and they told me it looks like that airport may be getting its act back together again after the shitshow of last year. Fingers crossed that's true.

Using 'Shithole' as an example of a nice airport isn't something I've heard in about 20 years.

Small airports are generally more pleasant than large ones. I'm not far from Heathrow but will choose London City if the flights are available - sadly they mostly aren't. I did a few flights from Southampton and that was also more convenient than Heathrow. Off the train to having a coffee airside - 15 mins.

That’s a good point, it’s been a while since I’ve flown

That was our experience last year. We had three European flights and Morocco connecting through T5, and every flight was just a joke. The only reassurance you have when the flight to Heathrow's is late is that the one from Heathrow will be late as well.
