Flake Russell: what's the point?
Ah, come on now. We all know Torq needs these fantasies to jack off to under the table whenever FR isn't perfect.weegie01 wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 12:19 amYou do know we can watch French matches in the UK?Torquemada 1420 wrote: Sat Jan 28, 2023 10:08 pm Flake gets handed a get out of jail card with a last gasp pen by LaR: after in the last 10 mins of the game he'd missed one in front of the posts and then waved Hastoy to the line for a try. Commentator wees his pants at the "match winner".
Kicks from between the 15m and touch lines are not traditionally called 'in front of the posts'. Nonetheless, given he had been knocking over hard kicks all match to get to 9/10 successful kicks you'd expect him to get it.
Klemenczak missed the tackle on Hastoy leaving Russell defending a three on one. If he had stopped that try it would have been a miracle, or incompetence by Hastoy.
Apart from that, spot on.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

It's what you'd expect from a lions test star to be fair.JM2K6 wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:04 am Saw the kick on the Top14 instagram feed. Monster stuff under huge pressure. Great work.
Yeah, true enough - someone with the ability to make something out of that shitshow of a tour clearly has the skill and cojones to rise above the rest.Uncle fester wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 7:17 pmIt's what you'd expect from a lions test star to be fair.JM2K6 wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:04 am Saw the kick on the Top14 instagram feed. TF, I can disagree with you again. Russell doesn't have balls/nerve. He has a total lack of awareness and so, generally, I don't think he feels pressure because he is unaware of it. Like someone with nerve damage not feeling pain, this can be advantageous and detrimental. Example: he missed a sitter of a kick but I did not for a moment think he'd miss the next because the events in his mind are entirely unrelated. When he throws a trade mark intercept pass, not for one moment would it make him think of not trying the very same the next move: because he does not think, he plays on instinct.JM2K6 wrote: Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:22 amYeah, true enough - someone with the ability to make something out of that shitshow of a tour clearly has the skill and cojones to rise above the rest.Uncle fester wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 7:17 pmIt's what you'd expect from a lions test star to be fair.JM2K6 wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:04 am Saw the kick on the Top14 instagram feed. That Lions game was the perfect opportunity for him: he had nothing to lose and was given a free hand to play without dictat and he had a blinder. Trouble is run the clock again and he'd be just as likely to do something catastrophic which could cost the game............ well, not in that case because the way the Lions played, there was no game to lose...... but you get the point.
PS No argument about skills or innate ability: all about execution.
What a load of tosh.
Torq probably pulled his cock off last night watching that

Agreed. Russell isn’t exactly the first 10 to miss an important kick to touch.Tichtheid wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:03 am It's the easiest thing in the world to say a player is rubbish and then sit there, arms folded, waiting for him to make a mistake, just so you can can "See, told you".
You could have done it with Dan Carter if you wanted to.
The ridiculous thing is that Torq obsesses over every tiny error, whilst somehow remaining blind to all of the amazing things he does. Nobody is saying he doesn’t make mistakes, but he is a game-breaker and everyone knows it. Except Torq, of course.
The idea that he lacks awareness is just astonishingly stupid. How many times have we seen him pick out a runner on the wing with a cross-kick? Open up a defence with a huge miss pass?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

One of the things that's impressed me is he how much he appears to know his own mind and game - I always worry that expressive, creative players can get a bit too straitjacketed and he seems to have struck a decent blend of thoughtful pragmatism with first-rate skills and vision.
Until Bath ruin him, at any rate.

He has been brilliant the last 3 weeks. Best player on the pitch tonight IMOBlackmac wrote: Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:11 pm Yannick Nyanga saying that Russell is the best player in the world might be a good time for a bump

I'm definitely a signed-up member of the Grégory Alldritt fanclub - so much so I even bothered to accent his name - but thought Russell was very impressive, Please don't break him before he returns Bath to our rightful place.
I loved his sneaky retreating intercepts, the crafty old goat.
The one that got away… imagine if his dad had grown some balls and insisted he follow his dreams, we’d be world beatersinactionman wrote: Sat Aug 12, 2023 9:33 pmI'm definitely a signed-up member of the Grégory Alldritt fanclub - so much so I even bothered to accent his name - but thought Russell was very impressive, Please don't break him before he returns Bath to our rightful place.

In all seriousness, Finns defence in the last couple of weeks has been outstanding as well
