He would have gone close to being our best forward in Japan. The guy is immense at test level. He buries people.

It's not his fault he didn't make an impact in the first half of the semi against England. He wasn't on the field.

So he had an ordinary Super Rugby campaign. Who cares? Richie McCaw had a few of those too.
I like you and still reckon cane is the man we want at 7 in test matches, it a bit different to Super etc, even though Cane impressed me in the games he played this year. I a bit of a fan of the workhorse 7 like Cane (and McCaw was) . I would of been happy with Whitelock (but I a fanboi of his), but I not sure he will be still going in 2023, and certainly not playing all the big games in WC. He looked absolutely f***ed be the time the semi against England last year. can't really think of any other prospects apart from Codie Taylor.

While McCaw was way past his best in 2015, it was still worth it for his ability as a captain.

Whitelock may have provided that same edge but we'll never know - he is certainly a "must pick" in his position.

Cane appears to have the support of his players like McCaw did and to me that is probably the key requirement.

Cane is not McCaw. Cane tackles well but is very mediocre in everything else. McCaw was a piece of metal.
