2020 has been positively dystopian, which writer most accurately forecast the current state of affairs?

I think there are elements of 1984 with how intolerant people have become of others with differing opinions and the cancel culture that is part and parcel of that intolerance. The main reason I would not say that 1984 it is too much of a mid 20th century type dystopia, dependent on force, dictatorship, re-education and so on. It might have accurately depicted Communist regimes of the 20th century but its outdated now.

Brave New World though really nailed the modern world in the way in which we are endlessly distracted and kept docile with entertainment. I feel like it also captured the lack of social mobility in the modern world and the way that people have been conditioned to accept it. It is also a dystopia that exists with the consent of the people which makes it more sinister and disturbing. People lack consciousness to really understand how they are being oppressed and those that do are too apathetic and resigned to their fate to care.

I’m hoping I’m still on vacation at Rekal.

If not, Enz, one tip...

Well we aren't there yet but...

E.M. Forster's 1909 short story "The Machine Stops"
The story describes a world in which most of the human population has lost the ability to live on the surface of the Earth. Each individual now lives in isolation below ground in a standard room, with all bodily and spiritual needs met by the omnipotent, global Machine. Travel is permitted, but is unpopular and rarely necessary. Communication is made via a kind of instant messaging/video conferencing machine with which people conduct their only activity: the sharing of ideas and what passes for knowledge.

Having given this more thought, the actual answer is of course The Matrix. We're all plugged into our phones and the internet 24/7 being fed a constant stream of shite from whatever bubble we choose to think suits us. We think we know what's going but in reality it's all very different and you have very little influence on events.

Don't the militia groups start causing shit in dystopian stories after the state has completely failed, zombies / aliens / pathogen wiped out the majority?

I can't think of a story that has them roving around freely whilst the gov't has the power to say "Nuh-uh, no weirdos playing soldier while we have local police, state police, national guard and military to keep order."

You are the problem dickhead. Orwellian Australia.

Grow some balls. You obviously have never spent much time in a legitimate fascist state.

Go and purchase some cans of harden the fuck up, princess, sit on your couch and stfu.

That is all you are being asked to do but you can't even do that.

How far the Apple has fallen from the WW2 heroes who actually defeated Nazi Germany.

I'm sure they are very proud of your fortitude.

You despicably weak cunt.
