In fairness, he's not wrong about Canada's and the US's obsession with 7s ruining our respective XVs teams.

I've said it before, but think WR missed a trick by not pumping up 10s. Three extra players could make for some more attacking combos, bring in some different body types to provide more variety than swinging the ball from sideline to sideline to find the speedster.

It's just his annual "I hate 7s" rant. I'm glad he's being ridiculed for it.

7s is great. It brings in so many new fans to the game and is a great day out. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

I'm not a huge fan of 7s as its discriminatory against fatties like myself.

I played in a 10s tournament a couple of years ago and it was excellent. Plenty of space on the pitch for nippy bastards, but makes an allowance for fat kunts as well

My suspicion is he's used his time travelling ability to go far far into the future to try to find a Welsh WC win and found nothing, hence why he's such a bitter asshole.

I didn't need a TARDIS to know that fact...

Bet he's paid well into the triple digits for this guff - plus free travel to every major rugby event.

Probably one of a number of 'form' articles he wrote years ago, he drags out from time to time, just forgot to change the date this time.

Och, he’s paid to express controversial opinions. I try not to read them (tho I’ve given up on the papers doing anything approaching actual analysis).

On this occasion tho (first time for everything!), I actually do agree with him. When I was younger, I found the big events fun social occasions. But I’ve always found 7s almost unwatchable, tbh (was a lot of fun to play though).

I got bored with it being a ‘World Cup’ 8 times a year, and then they try and hype the actual 7s World Cup… “Yeah, but these are the same teams I saw play two weeks ago!” And the Olympics has fewer teams, including absolute no-hopers wasting everyone’s time.

I liked that short Prem 7s series they did, but wouldn’t want a full season of it. I really liked the Brisbane 10s a number of years ago. Super sides, at least Samoa as a national team with them, mix of players we know and some hot young prospects.

Yeah, imo, 10s is a much more watchable game. I haven’t watched much of it, but RL 9s was also quite engaging.

Since our team got to play 10's at the tail end of a season I much prefer it to 7's.

both are enjoyable however 10 is a more complete game that allows the larger players into the game .

Random thoughts as usual:
- we saw a massive take up in the girls game here once 7s became an Olympic sport.
- HSBC 7s is about the only meaningful show in town for us so has a very big role in introducing newbies to the game
- most of our international schools only play 7s as they don’t have enough fat kids anymore 🙁
- 10a is a wonderful format to play and to watch
- as kids progress through our junior club age groups, they play 10s then 12s and then 15s. 12s is also a cool format (although maybe a little close to that other bunch)
