I tried to watch Ted Lasso, it’s very light hearted. But it’s just so lame. The main character is really annoying, as is his assistant coach.

The only characters worth watching it for (a little bit) are the old boy Roy Kent, and the Jamie Tartt character.

Got me thinking.

Clearly on this thread there are different “tastes”, some posters are matches, some are not.

I ask each of you to submit a top tv series list of this millennium. And a bottom list of those highly rated, but which you “controversially” don’t like.
Max of 10 in the top list, and 5 in the bottom list.

You may edit your list multiple times as you see ones from others you forgot.

I found the first series quite fun, albeit quite saccharine and edgeless. The second ramped that up to an unbearable degree and I haven't watched the third.

Third is good, we found the 2nd a bit too daft. Really enjoying it.

The best, in no particular order

Fargo (I've only seen the first two series but they were excellent)
The Wire
Sopranos
Band of Brothers
Frasier - not entirely sure about including this, but it was a must watch at a particular time, when Friday Nights were for staying in because the nippers were wee.
ER - see above for midweek evenings
Game of Thrones (House of the Dragon was better than the latter series of GoT I thought)
I may destroy you
Atlanta - just brilliant, quirky and funny
Feabag
Slow Horses

Started off good but went a bit stale
Orange is the New Black
Six feet under
Lost
The Americans
West Wing - started off good, if a bit earnest, then went all runny after Sorkin left the team, then got good/ok again when Jimmy Smits joined
Sons of Anarchy

Haven't seen
Squid Game
Deadwood
Veep
Succession
Madmen - for some reason the smoking put me off after a couple of episodes

Bad -
The Office
Breaking Bad

Top:
Band of Brothers
Firefly
The Thick Of It
What We Do In The Shadows
Taskmaster
The Wire (first 4 seasons)
The Daily Show (w/ Jon Stewart)
Slow Horses
West Wing
BrainDead
Justified
Pretty much every BBC nature doc.
Black Sails
Southland
Andor
Love, Death & Robots
The Kirlian Frequency
Veep
Daredevil
Kingdom (Korean zombie show, not one of the many other Kingdoms)
Brand New Cherry Flavour

I tend to forget about the things I find disappointing, I'm sure other's lists will prompt plenty of 'Oh yeah, that was crapper than people told me it'd be', but:
Breaking Bad (didn't make it to the end of seaosn 1)
Mike Flanagan's everything (Haunting Of Hill House, Bly Manor, Midnight Mass) which is a shame because his films are generally pretty good.
Walking Dead (plus sundry spin offs)
Stranger Things
Deadwood
Pretty much any serious crime drama that revolves around a troubled homicide detective.

Suffer from not very good memory so have to do a selective list of things that most quickly come to mind - all IMO of course

The Best ( with caveat that they are not always consistently excellent but can rewatch many times )
The WIre
Battlestar Galactica Re-imagining
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Ripper Street
Firefly
Borgen
Game of Thrones ( obviously declined late on...)
Rome
Chernobyl
Farscape

Good to watch once but not necessarily to go back to
Sherlock
Bosch
Peaky Blinders
Spiral aka Engrenages
Sopranos
Broadchurch
Fargo
Breaking Bad
The West Wing
The Thick of It
Generation Kill
True Detectives S1 & 3 (NOT 2!)

OK stuff to fill in an empty schedule
House
The Good Wife
Halt and Catch Fire
The Walking Dead up about season 5
Endeavour
Gomorroh

Stuff highly rated/talked about that I could never get into
Mad Men
Mr Robot
Lost
24
The Office

I'm reserving judgement on 'Succession' until I see the final episode, but have enjoyed it greatly so far and if the finale nails it then it might well join my 'Best' list

First series that sprang to mind to top the GOOD list was Chernobyl but no-one has mentioned it. Just me then...

Never watched it. Seems like a very serious drama which I tend to avoid.

Indeed, quality series

Also more sci-fi, forgot about 'Farscape' ( which I'm even rewatching mpw for 3rd time...)

Edit your lists if someone mentions something which affects your list.

I’m not sure I’ve found myself a tv series buddy match yet. 😭

I could never live there. It is the most ridiculous sounding accent I’ve ever heard.

My father in law is originally brummie. But fortunately he moved to Surrey when he was young and had that accent mostly removed from him.

Where’s your English ancestry from grandpa?

Mine mostly Lancashire. Although my grandfather was from Croydon (1900).

Well that's settled my decision to never check it out. There are a few UK accents that really grate my ears and that's one of them. You grin and bear it with real people, but I don't need that in my free time.

Technically Black Country and Birmingham Brummie are different dialect/accents
Do you call your remote control the Clonker or the Bopper?

Apparently, depending on your answer, you are either from Birmingham or the Black Country.

Clonker or Bopper ?

I can’t even begin to imagine how dreadful those “words” sound in brummy.
