Currently have Netflix, can't say I'm impressed by the quality of the content tbh.

They're all like that to some degree: a wealth of programmes to watch at first then after a few months tapering down until there's next to nothing appealing. Have just cancelled Now TV now that Succession is finished and can't find anything more (though they did offer a big discount on monthly fee if I stayed!)

Avoid Prime, most of the best stuff on there you still have to pay for. Netflix, Disney + Discovery + are all decent solid choices

The proliferation of streaming services and resultant fragmentation of content means basically none of them are worth an ongoing subscription. Because of their big IPs and having actually made the stuff they acquired from Fox available, Disney+ might be the one it takes longest to run out of stuff to watch with.

Netflix's big selling point ahead of any others at the moment is the amount of stand up they have on there. They also have Studio Ghibli's catalogue.

The other main ones all seem to have just a handful of flagship shows/movies to recommend them.

All the Disney stuff (well, except Song of The South)
Star Wars
Marvel
Simpsons
National Geographic
Buckets of those terrible Disney Channel shows featuring child actors now starring in a mugshot or graveyard near you
An absolute shit ton of films from all their subsidiaries e.g. Touchstone, plus all the companies they've acquired e.g. Fox - All the 80s testosterone films you could want, as long as you can get to the chopper
Loads of dramas, comedies and documentaries

Prime has some series I like, and a constantly rotating pile of films. They seem more likely to renew shows than netflix too. The free delivery is very handy too, so that's a big part of the advantage. Plus prime gaming offers a free monthly twitch subscription (if anyone in your family is into that) and free games every month, sometimes some quite good titles.

Disney+ is the other we have, the boy watches it a lot, went through probably all the simpsons, now grinding stars rebels/clone wars/bad batch etc along with the mandalorin, boba fett etc.

I also check out the free uk stuff too, ukplay, bbc, itv, 4 etc since they do sometimes have good classic series or some nice new stuff. Easy to forget the regular channels sometimes!

Cycle around them, so Welcome to Wrexham, and a ton of other stuff is worth Disney plus for a month,
Netflix is worth always sunny, miss dynamite, tons more to be fair..
Apple TV you got some great stuff with Harrison Ford
Amazon Prime is worth it for the Marv Mrs Masial etc
Paramount + is pretty good too.
You can basically do 2 months in each one and come back around a year later.


But you can get by with just youtube, bbci player, etc and free music on Spotify and Amazon if you are feeling a bit poverty stricken.

Or get a few hobbies..I recommend the Guitar, Flight Simming, Watch Collecting, Walking, interest in Politics and computers....and you will basically have all your entertainment needs met, by watching YouTube.

It is superb if you have interests.

Since you are in SA, I'll give you feedback on my experience Trog:

Disney+
Top for me. I'm a big fan of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, so happy to watch whatever I want when I want. But the deal sweetener here is the National Geographic and Star catalogues. Tons of documentaries, miniseries and movies. If you pay for the annual subscription in one go, you only pay for 10 months (R1190), or if you prefer to pay per month then the price is R119 x12. I read somewhere this morning that the pricing is going up at the end of the month to R139 per month. So get a move on!

Pretty much like Netflix, where you have periods of nothing really to watch. But they do have quite a sizable catalogue of good original content and movies. The Grand Tour, Jack Reacher, Jack Ryan, LOTR, Carnival Row to name but a few. Lots of Bollywood crap added to their SA catalogue, but overall not bad at all. By far the cheapest of the lot as well, R79 per month. Well worth the 80 bucks.

Apple TV
Only been on for a couple of months. Only original content. I have been impressed thus far with most of their series and movies, currently watching Silo and Crowded Room with the missus. Only shyte thing is they only release one episode per week. Not the most expensive at R125 per month, but the catalogue size is not that big. Not worth it just yet.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. By far the most expensive at R200 per month. We barely watch anything on it the last couple of months. Recently watched Arnold's documentary and suffered through Fubar. The good news is Witcher is at least coming at the end of the month.

We get it for free as part of our DSTV premium package. But never watch it. Only up side is they have HBO content. But yeah.. nah.

Thought I read that somewhere, thanks Blake. Already had mine paid up for the full year from last May. So it auto renewed again last month. I actually prefer not to be tied in with DSTV, heaven knows if it wasn't for the rugby I'd cancel my subscription in a heartbeat.

I haven't checked the Ts & Cs but I presume if you cancel your DStv Premium sub you'll lose the bundled free Showmax and discounted Disney+...but then you can just subscribe to those seperately at normal price.

Sparse releases of new decent content from all of them from all of them. I'm thoroughly bored right now.

If you're new to a service, there's a good deal of catch-up and binge-watching to do to keep you entertained for a good while, particularly when you're going through a prog that has many seasons.

If I could have HBO on its own I would've gone for it. But Disney has lost its appeal for me.

The best way forward would be to continue watching series that my friend somehow borrows from the internet at some Pirate-what-what thing. I was under the impression this practice was stopped but my friend says that he still has 1 or 2 trustworthy online libraries.

I’ve somehow ended up with several different ones despite deciding not to have more than two. I blame lockdown.

I have always viewed Prime as a next-day delivery service that I couldn’t live without, that happens to come with a free streaming service. It’s really annoying that they market paid-for stuff alongside the free stuff, but there’s still a lot of stuff on there.

Netflix is probably best for original content.

Disney Plus was the surprise package for me - I didn’t expect that much of it, but I’ve ended up watching it loads. They also have a heap of silly 90s action movies, which are very much my jam.

Apple TV Plus I should cancel. There’s a bunch of really good stuff on there, just not enough of it.

Paramount Plus I got a free login for with my Sky subscription. Again, has some good stuff but not all that much of it.

If Discovery+ has the sport you want, go for it. The rest of the content is truly awful.
