They've shitcanned student debt relief, too. Turtle Mitch played the SC Justice appointment process like a fiddle, the vile old fucker. 40 more years of decisions like this on the way.

Sure, he got the SCOTUS the scrotes wanted, but every decision they've gotten has fucked the GOP for a generation; Roe V Wade has awakened women across the US, regardless of political persuasion, that the GOP is in the grip of evangelical christians. This latest decision has shown a whole generation that the GOP will pass a tax bill that gives billionaires a trillion dollars, but if a President tries to do something for the middle class, the GOP will pull out all the stops to block it.Hal Jordan wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 4:15 pm They've shitcanned student debt relief, too. All they'll achieve is a short term benefit, & in the end they'll create a ground swell to reform the Court, to stop any one Party ever from being able to tilt the scales in such a way ever again.

Individual states can decide on fundamental things like income tax and the death penalty so I get the logic that abortion rights should be decided at state level. Even if I think the legislation executed in some states is dreadfully harsh.Hal Jordan wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 4:15 pm They've shitcanned student debt relief, too. But yeah, the student debt relief would seem to us to be something that a government should be free to act on. I haven’t delved into what the grounds for objecting to it were.

I know you probably mean legal basis, but I'm not sure that really matters. The Republican Justices are well aware of what the party/donors want and will find whatever they need to make a pretense at legal justification.

Except that's not the way the right are going to work. They'll wangle both state and federal laws towards their warped view of the world. It's all thin edge of the wedge and Gilead is the desired endgame.GogLais wrote: Sat Jul 01, 2023 9:31 amIndividual states can decide on fundamental things like income tax and the death penalty so I get the logic that abortion rights should be decided at state level. Rudy testified for ~8 hours, as part of his proffer agreement with Smith !
Now as I understand the way this works, he has to answer, & can't take the 5th, as he has immunity from anything he says during this testimony, so a refusal to answer is contempt, & a lie is always going to be perjury.
Of course he isn't the only person testifying under these conditions, so if say Eastman throws him under the bus in his testimony, & Rudy throws Eastman under the bus in his, & Smith has other evidence that doesn't come from a co-conspirator, they're both screwed.
There's going to be a lot of shitty lawyers doing porridge, & all they can do to limit whether or not they die there, is to hand over evidence on the traitor in chief.

Does anybody really believe that the COCAINE found in the West Wing of the White House, very close to the Oval Office, is for the use of anyone other than Hunter & Joe Biden. But watch, the Fake News Media will soon start saying that the amount found was “very small,” & it wasn’t really COCAINE, but rather common ground up Aspirin, & the story will vanish. Has Deranged Jack Smith, the crazy, Trump hating Special Prosecutor, been seen in the area of the COCAINE? He looks like a crackhead to me!

Was Crooked Joe Biden on Cocaine when he instructed the FBI/DOJ to illegally invade my home, Mar-a-Lago, in complete and total violation of my 4th Amendment Rights? Was he on Cocaine, or various other substances, when he, for the first time in U.S. history, had his political opponent, who is leading him in the Polls by a lot, indicted and arrested (twice, if you include the DOJ run Manhattan D.A.’s Office)? WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE!!!The public is demanding to know the White House “Cocaine Story.” Just like I QUICKLY PROVIDED SECURITY TAPES FROM MAR-a-LAGO on the BOXES HOAX, the White House has Security Cameras (far more than Mar-a-Lago!) all over the place, especially the location in question. THEY 100% KNOW WHO IT IS. If they don’t release information, it means they destroyed the tapes & the Cocaine was for use by Hunter, & probably Crooked Joe, in order to give this total disaster of a President a little life and energy!
What an example to how a purported world leader should act..

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-wanted-c ... er-1813402Trump Wanted Cows to Climb Ladders Over Border Wall, Ex-Staffer Says
Donald Trump once floated a plan for ranchers to use ladders to get their cattle over the border wall, according to a new book by Miles Taylor, the former Trump administration official who famously criticized Trump in an op-ed under the pen name Anonymous.
....
As president Trump would steer briefings to his "favorite subject" and run through his "list of cruelly imaginative immigration policies," Taylor writes in his upcoming book, Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy From the Next Trump, an extract of which was obtained exclusively by Newsweek.
...
In his book, Taylor recalls that in a March 7, 2019, meeting, Trump "out of nowhere" complained that ranchers in Texas were being allowed to open doors in the border wall to allow their cattle to reach the Rio Grande.
"No doors. I don't want doors," Trump said, according to Taylor. "How crazy is this? There are doors in the border wall? It's stupid. They can just walk up, open the door, and thousands of [illegals] rush in."
...
"Give the ranchers ladders. They can use ladders to get to the other side, but not doors. You could use small fire trucks. Call the local fire stations, and use the ladders on their trucks to help them get over."
The plan was "so incandescently stupid I couldn't laugh," Taylor remembers thinking at the time.
He said Trump went on to say that the plan was needed because Mexico "is a hellhole."
"Have I said that yet? Because it is," Trump said, according to Taylor. "It's a hellhole, and no one f****** wants that place. Forty thousand murders. Can you believe it? Sheesh."
Taylor writes that Trump's "border obsession was consuming him." He often made derogatory references to migrants—including calling them "robbers and rapists"—and was furious when his ideas were not implemented.
Taylor recalls Trump complaining in a meeting on March 28, 2019, that the troops he had sent to patrol the border were ineffective and needed to use deadly force.
"But we can't do that," Trump said ruefully, according to Taylor, before noting that the Pentagon had told him to stop talking about "shooting migrants."
Taylor told Newsweek that "when it comes to Trump, the truth is always vastly more idiotic than the fiction. He spent more time coming up with imbecilic ideas at the border than he did focusing on his job. Sometimes the ideas were stupid. Sometimes they were illegal. Often they were both."

A Ponzi scheme operator whose prison sentence was commuted by former US President Donald Trump has been charged with a similar fraud.
Eli Weinstein, 48, was among 143 people whose convictions were either fully pardoned or commuted in Mr Trump's final hours in office.
But less than a year after release, Mr Weinstein allegedly launched a scheme to defraud at least 150 investors.
Federal prosecutors said on Wednesday he "picked up right where he left off".
Mr Weinstein, of Lakewood, New Jersey, has previously pleaded guilty to two separate investment fraud schemes - in 2013, to a real estate Ponzi scheme, and in 2015, to wire fraud while on trial for the Ponzi scheme.
His crimes resulted in combined losses of more than $224m (£174m) to victims.
By Mr Trump's final year in office, he was eight years into a 24-year prison sentence.
...
On his last full day in office, Mr Trump reduced Mr Weinstein's sentence to time served and he was released the same day. The White House described him as a "father of seven children and a loving husband".
But according to court papers unsealed in a New Jersey federal court on Wednesday, Mr Weinstein orchestrated a new Ponzi scheme to steal $35m.
Using the fake name "Mike Konig" to hide his criminal past, he and four accomplices created bogus investment funds.
They told prospective investors their money would be used for "lucrative deals involving, among other things, Covid-19 masks, scarce baby formula, and first-aid kits bound for Ukraine".
"These were brazen and sophisticated crimes that involved multiple conspirators and drew right from Weinstein's playbook of fraud," Philip Sellinger, the US Attorney for New Jersey said on Wednesday.
Mr Weinstein and his co-conspirators face up to 25 years in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has also filed a civil complaint against him and five others for his actions.

The tame Judge down in Florida tried to do a Solomon, & pick the middle ground on a trial date, so now there's a reasonable chance he goes into the Convention as a convicted felon, with a pending appeal.
I wonder will Smith now pull out the wild card, & charge him for the subsiduary charges up in NJ, where he has a wealth of evidence (it's where the two incidents of him showing classified materials happened), & he'll get a Federal Judge who wasn't appointed because of her looks.

Looks like a TIA to me, which is a 'mini stroke'. Confusion, loss of speech, difficulty in understanding what others are saying, no facial movements, etc would all be classic indicators. If it was then it would be better for him, and almost every other American, if he retired gracefully and too action to avoid future TIA or even full blown stroke.
TIA was my initial thought also as my dad has suffered from them and had one on Tuesday. Back in hospital..

Thanks. It's a juggling act between blood thinners that prevent clotting, but increase the chance of brain bleeds. He's 95 but still in good shape..
