Sad news.

1990 was one of about 5 different years in my life that really stick in the memory (incredibly hot summer, Italia 90, first year of secondary school, first time playing rugby) and Nothing Compares to You was one of the best songs of that year. I can never recall 1990 without thinking of that song. Life is just so cruel, I hope Sinead finds peace.

Fuck...

She's an old friend of ex Mrs TB, they went to school together..

She used to turn up at my pub and sing, quite often, normally just her and a guitar.

Shared a lot of beers with her in the early 90s..

RIP..
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.
They don't know I'm using blanks..

So sad.

She had the most perfect voice, it could break your heart, but she never had any sustained happiness in her personal life, & the debris of her childhood, poisoned all her adult relationships

It sounds like her last couple of years were complete turmoil. Losing a son must be unimaginable.

Poor soul, I hope they're together now.

She could have been an extraordinary Sean-nòs singer, who knows, maybe that would have been better path for her, without the huge public profile and the pressures that come with it.

But she was never going to be restrained by a style or a genre.

One of the mountains of things I've seen over the days since her death made me think, it went along the lines of,

Outspoken and opinionated women are only celebrated in one place - the obituary column.

Yes, she wasn't made for fame. Arguably she'd have been better off if she was ugly as sin and she might have been let get on with a nice low key career.

Such sad news. I've been listening to her a lot over the past week. I've always loved this song and her live performance here is mesmerising. May she rest in peace.
