Keep it as far away from the SABC as you can. Best option is to ask DSTV to do a few games on a free channel.

That would be awesome actually. Give the lower ranked Currie Cup teams competing in the African Cup broader exposure by airing their matches on SABC, thereby growing their fanbase and warchests (merch, sponsors, advertising) to make them more competitive for the next season.

Too bad MultiChoice will never let that happen. Bastards have SARU completely locked down.
The SABC doesn't have the money to be the broadcaster.
Alternate proposal - MultiChoice to broadcast live, and avail it the SABC for re-broadcast immediately after the live broadcast. Win-win.
  • SABC don't have to pay for production or rights.
  • Lower ranked teams get exposure
  • African Rugby (and likely the Kings) get exposure
Never gonna happen. Nice to dream though.

Isn't there some leverage to push Multichoice to run with something like this? With the amount of negativity that SA businesses have faced in Africa, it seems as if Multichoice are trying to create an image of "local content" etc. in African countries where they have a presence. These are mostly rugby playing nations except for the Francophone ones, where I don't think they have much of a presence.

Probably not a priority though.

Exactly. Massive opportunity for them. PR coup. If it is a hit then maybe they can leverage it in future, but as a starting point, it's a great start for all involved to polish their image somewhat.

DURBAN - Barring unexpected government intervention, the Stormers will play the Lions and the Bulls will face the Sharks on the September 26 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria when South African rugby resumes at last after nearly six months of lockdown.

Hey...Jake white has made some great signings.....I definitely don't dismiss them as a challenge....

Notice how the other 2 unions have shat the bed and would rather play in the minor leauge against each other than take on one of the big boys...

Oh well...it actually makes sense at the end of the day....Stormers and Lions are walkovers.....

At last.
Interestingly, of the Super Rugby franchises, the Lions, Bulls and Stormers reported clean bills of health after the first testing two weeks ago while the Sharks returned 15 positive results from the testing of over 100 players and staff members. However, the tests at the Sharks proved to be “false negatives” and the Durban union have now reported a clean sheet.

I want to point out the obvious to the saarks on here and that is the well-known second season blues. Yes, they started this year fairly well (a surprise to one and all), but the proof of a resurrection will be how they follow that up.

I wish them all of the best.

If the Cheetahs accept that they are a feeder union, a place where promising youngsters go to develop, it will go much better for them. They have a role to play.

Not at all. We dealt with that shit already this year...and last year.

He just has better backline players which would change the dynamics...but we haven't really seen what a side look like...

Care to hazard an attempt.

Yeah...I hear lots of moaning about the lads from other sides not being match ready. Sharks have been full contact for awhile now. I have been following them and they have been working very hard during lockdown. I suppose the spotlight will be on them because they are the team to chase. But yeah...lots of errors

Geez Sards, anything less than a drubbing will be a massive letdown. Know it isn’t likely to go wrong, but do you have a support structure in place? Friends, family? I know for a fact that the fine members of this bored will definitely be there for you.

I’m old school like that, no picking provinces based whether a collar needs to be popped, or which team pic was Huisgenoot centerfold in a given year. There must be some kind of geographical, historical link and cultural link. I was born in Park Lane Clinic.

This makes me good at commiserating when things go wrong and be gracious in victory when the wheel inevitably turns.

They are close to my age then Oom Fangle! Not sure when last you were in the area, my daughter was in res in the same street as the Clinic earlier this year (pre COVID). Think you would be pleasantly surprised.

I was in res in what was called Knockando when it first opened in the 1960s, at the top of the hill where Oxford road went, and later lived in Waverley before being transferred to Atlanta in 1998. My brother was in EOH.

Growing up Afrikaans in the Platteland, Wits was for communists, feminists and terrorists. I was very impressed with the university, from how they managed open days etc. to admin and communication, especially given COVID. My daughter really loved her time there. She decided to go elsewhere, so from the commies to the home of the broederbond. As an aside, Wits’ rugby is really on the up, with a lot of rugby boys from non traditional Wits schools (read Afrikaans) being signed, Hugenote Springs’ head boy being an example in the last week, and a lot of Helpmekaar boys over the last year or so.

Agree. Though at the moment I would get excited over any SA rugby, including Pollsmoor Correctional Services cleaning staff XV vs. POPCRU Invitational.

Some rugby where the result actually matters to me will be very welcome.
Watching foreign Rugby is nice but who wins or loses doesn't really matter despite me normally favoring one team over the other.

Yes, I totally agree. Especially the Boks. After last year's world cup win, which was such an emotional roller-coaster, it's been torture not being able to see them play since.

I long to scream at my TV again.
