Just whisper it, but Im wondering if the previous combo might be better.
I like those two together. Pity it won't happen much (or at all from next year)

That one was for Gumboot, Clarke nailing a try

That'll be a red. We'll who knows, but it should be.

I suspect that may stay at yellow, but it's more by luck than judgement that he didn't make an even worse hit.

There's never any call for it, but rolling the dice on whether your world cup gets cut short by putting in a no arm high shot in a pool game against Namibia is the height of stupidity.

There is mitigating factors. He didn’t apply the force. It was in process of a tackle.

But it might be red as it was always illegal …

de Groot was always passive in the tackle, it wasn't a "hit" as such. I think it will remain yellow

But you only get to the level of force bit of the framework (which is where passive and active might be mentioned) if applying mitigation and mitigation can only be applied to legal tackles (in theory), which that wasn't.

Edit - there we go.

Didn't look a legal tackle on the one showing I saw. Had to go sort something so have it paused.

Red it is

I don't have any arguments against the decision

Genuinely no idea what’s going on with these cards now. The one last night was a lot worse IMO, really didn’t think that was going to get upgraded. Just utterly confused with it all

Only for the remainder of the pool stage on past examples. 6 week entry, half off if he doesn't eat all the biscuits and says sorry with a further week off for tackle school if he hasn't used it already.

The argument for Taofifenua's was that he was attempting to wrap and thus it was a legal tackle to which mitigation could be applied.

For what it's worth I disagree that he was making a legal tackle attempt and should have had a red.

The’ve just got to bring in the lower tackle height and be done with it. We’ve had years now of yellow and red cards and nothing is changing in terms of player behaviour. Lower the height and these higher hits will have to stop being coached

I'd propose that 71 is the modern day equivalent of over 100 in the old days before league-style defences came in.

Absolutely - no soaks, accidents, mitigations. Hit them high, red card. Maybe make it a 20 minute red though but longer bans.

Time to shit or get off the pot.

As Enzed noted, it is impossible to take much from that match but one moment stood out for me. At 74'50" or thereabouts, the ABs turnover Namibia ball 5m from our tryline and stage a breakout. DMac hoofs the ball deep into the Namibia 22 and the only AB making any real attempt to chase the ball and put pressure on the retriever was ......

Wait for it

A bit longer

Spoiler
Show
148-test veteran Sam Whitelock, who had started the match

What a fucking disgrace!!! Where were the speedsters? Having a cup of coffee or something?????

Equalling McCaw's All Black record with his 148th cap.

Making it to four World Cups and winning two.

God knows how many Supe titles.

Fifteen years as a pro and nary a whisper of scandal.

One of our true greats.

Tiaan Swanepoel was utterly kak last night. A very AC type of give up before kick off attemp from Namibia.

All Blacks should have put a ton on this lot.

As much as we need to put the opposition into context, this match was good for the ABs.
The NZ scrum looked the best I have seen it. They pushed like a well coordinated wedge. It was a thing of beauty. How it will stand up against top sides is another matter, but I can see its soooo much better coordinated and is definitely going to cause problems if the opposition is not set as well.
The skills in the backline......if it keeps on sticking for the ABs like that.......well, they are going to win the RWC.

I thought Namibia scrum can be proud of the fact that they did not give away a series of penalties. They were given a scrum lesson, yet they kept it legal.

Oh and NZ, please drop that silly wooden spoon. Your haka is ENOUGH.

What happened to the young lad Kisting who started at first five in the match vs ABs in RWC2019? He was superb and gave total commitment right to the final whistle. Check the video of the TJ Peranara try late in the game and you will see Kisting making the final tackle in the corner that nearly stopped the try.

He's in the RWC squad but not fully fit yet
Kisting, who plays for Romanian club Dinamo Bucuresti, fractured an arm when Namibia toured South America recently but will be available for the last two Pool A fixtures against France and Uruguay.

Allister Coetzee says that the whole All Blacks team signed a jersey and gifted it to Le Roux Malan. 👏

“That is not just saying the ethos and the culture and the values of rugby, but actually living and feeling it. That to me is unbelievable of the All Blacks to do something like that.” - Coetzee. 🇳🇦

Apparently it's dislocated and fractured leg/ankle like Cipriani had. Horrible injury, wish him the best.
