My initial reaction was where the feck in Birmingham is that supposed to be, so wrong city to claim in even before the band are from Coventry. But actually I think I do know where that is, indeed I'll have walked up/down that ramp he's turning onto many a time, just I've probably not been there for the better part of 30 years and I cannot imagine there's anything of interest there now. That's where Oasis was when I was a kid, good for stuff like posters, band t-shirts, lava lamps, zippos, jewellery... and there was also an actual market for some fruit and veg, shit market clothing and bed linens. If there are any shops still open it's all probably even shitter 30 year on.

Because, you know; any American hyper-processed food product should only contain, pink ooze, bone fragments, foreign bodies, fructose corn syrup, & rat feces.Tyson Recalls Nearly 30,000 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets Over Metal Pieces
Tyson said it had received complaints from consumers about finding small metal pieces in the product. Federal regulators said one “minor oral injury” had been reported.
Metal fragments are probably a dietary plus in most food products over there.

Usual fireworks shenanigans in Edinburgh last night - little sods letting off fireworks at police and anyone in general vicinity.
Almost ran one of the sods over by accident on way to the chippy (they were also out in force in Gracemount, not just Niddrie) - half-wish I had, as the police had closed the end of the road down so had to make do with microwave meal.

Porty was great for a while, then the Neds arrived and started firing fireworks horizontally instead of vertically so it was time to leave, beach looked like a warzone this morning, so depressing. Didn't see one copper the entire night.

I'd Imagine Porty would be awesome with fireworks on beach with some hot chocolate and maybe marshmallows around bonfire. I certainly did some dickhead things when I was a teenager, but letting fireworks loose near families is just so far beyond the pale - if you want to launch fireworks at each other, feck off into the middle of an empty field.Slick wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:38 amA mate was sending video updates from Niddrie.inactionman wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 9:23 am Usual fireworks shenanigans in Edinburgh last night - little sods letting off fireworks at police and anyone in general vicinity.

Loads of blue flashing lights up near Gracemount, although it's maybe not as bad as Niddrie there's still far, far too many kids getting involved in this. Although I'm sure there's ringleaders, it's really not just one or two dickheads.
Just about every cop in the Lothians and central Scotland was drafted in to deal with that last night and the violence used against police last night is being horrifically under reported. Three lads were actually set alight by petrol bombs and another has significant facial injuries after his helmet visor was smashed by a rocket. The twats are not just having a laugh they are trying to kill police and society has completely tied the police's hands behind their backs. I hope next year the police just close off these areas and let them all rot in their own shit.inactionman wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 11:05 amI'd Imagine Porty would be awesome with fireworks on beach with some hot chocolate and maybe marshmallows around bonfire. Lewes along the road from here can get a bit wild on the 4th, there are several bonfire societies and the younger members run about the toon chucking fireworks about all over the place, then on the 5th they have the parades and bonfires https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-67321539
Everyone knows what is what and everyone accepts it. I was told by a member of one of the societies that the Police just stay away on the 4th, or at least off the streets unless something bad happens.
I don't go along there anymore, the 5th became so busy that the trains and busses stoped running and you are not allowed to park within the town borders. The bonfire website tells people not to come to Lewes - all fair enough in my view. The not only commemorate the Gunpowder Plot, but a dozen or so Protestant Martys who were burned at the stake iirc. It always amused me the idea of burning effigies of the Pope and how that wouldn't wash in Scotland.
There are other, a bit more dodgy bonfires held around Sussex.

I only saw a bit of it, and there was a lad on a bike I almost ran into - no lights and a dark hoodie - who was just weaving across the main road hoying fireworks.Blackmac wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 7:22 pmJust about every cop in the Lothians and central Scotland was drafted in to deal with that last night and the violence used against police last night is being horrifically under reported. Given he was throwing them near bus stops with people waiting, maybe I should have run the little sod down.
Complete contempt for any else's wellbeing, so I'm disinclined to consider his too highly. Little gits. Hoping the police who got hurt are recovering OK - I've no idea how they don't just lose it and give the scrotes the backs of their hands. I'm not sure I'd have their patience, training notwithstanding.
I also don't really get the thinking - they live in quite a deprived area, so they trash it even more?

Yes, it did cross my mind that the lack of police in Porty was probably down to them all being over there. It's a bit of a mess really, I reckon I saw 2 police the entire summer in Porty but there were several nights where it got out of hand on the beach. A mate of mine is a liaison officer for the area and he says some of the shit kids get up too is absolutely disgusting and getting worse, he is genuinely sickened by it.Blackmac wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 7:22 pmJust about every cop in the Lothians and central Scotland was drafted in to deal with that last night and the violence used against police last night is being horrifically under reported. There were plans for riots on Halloween that didnt come to much (the first anniversary of the death of an upstanding drug dealing member of society that sparked the riots last year) and the weekend before with a few scuffles. Fri and Sat passed without incident.

Is that what they're generally like or does that one have a cold?
Also, I fell those noises could be quite useful in the repetoire of a foley artist. They're quite evocative of certain biological functions.

We had several of them at my previous work place (a non-profit). In principle not a terrible idea, but it seemed that those who became the MFAs where I worked were those you'd least like to talk to about anything so personal and it mainly seems another box C-suite types can tick off to say they're trying to create a good culture in the workplace without actually having to do anything substantive to improve the lives of employees.
First Aid for long-term mental issues seems an oxymoron to me. "Quick. Most of their role is about 'sign-posting to support', they're certainly not meant to be a therapist or medication substitute, but if someone is in the midst of an anxiety attack the MFAs should be sufficiently trained to help manage the sufferer through it. Or if someone with depression is feeling particularly low that day and MFA is someone they can state that to, so that they don't have to bottle it up and stew on it.Sandstorm wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 3:03 pmFirst Aid for long-term mental issues seems an oxymoron to me. A client had it in his signature today. Never heard of such a thing before. I checked and it's real.![]()
Again, all in theory. How comfortable anyone would feel doing the latter in the work place to someone who may functionally be a stranger or at best a colleague you're friendly towards yet not friends with.
