What the hell is going on in Ireland?
Stabbings in Dublin this afternoon - 3 kids and 2 women - haven’t seen the rest bit presumably linked
Or maybe the QF defeat has just been show on the Pathe newsreel in the cinemas?
Guessing the stabbings earlier are being linked, rightly or wrongly, to an immigrant.
All the money you made will never buy back your soul

3 kids stabbed and the mongs burn out cars and shops in protest. Very public spirited.
As far as I can gather, teh ultra right wing fascists have used the school stabbings as a "coup excuse" to go into full on riot mode - and of course all the just young scummers have joined in for the shits and giggles!
A thoroughly depressing day!

From the Independent
At a press conference, police confirmed that a man in his 50s, who is receiving treatment at hospital, has been identified as a “person of interest”. They are currently not searching for anyone else and confirmed they are satisfied that the attack is not terror-related.
On Thursday evening, riots broke out in the city centre with a number of Garda vehicles destroyed, while a tram and bus were set alight. Public transport was suspended while shop windows were smashed, with protesters blocking a bridge with construction signs.
Describing the clashes as “disgraceful scenes”, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said a “complete lunatic faction driven by far-right ideology” was behind the disorder.
Appealing for calm, Irish justice minister Helen McEntee said: “The scenes we are witnessing this evening in our city centre cannot and will not be tolerated.
“A thuggish and manipulative element must not be allowed use an appalling tragedy to wreak havoc.”
The clashes broke out a few hours after the knife attack, which happened outside to an Irish-medium primary school, Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire. Labour Party senator Marie Sherlock saying that children had been queuing for after-school care at the time of the attack.
A witness called Siobhan Kearney told Irish national broadcaster RTE that she saw a man attacking children with a “stabbing motion” before members of the public intervened and took a knife from him.

Is this true? (Conor being the MMA guy)
The Algerian-born man who committed the horrible act last night was actually a fully legal, naturalised Irish citizen, while the man who stopped him (and whom Conor praised) was an immigrant.
At a press conference earlier Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Micheál Martin was asked about comments on Wednesday by Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor, who posted on X - "Ireland, we are at war".
The comments came the day before the rioting, but Martin was asked if posts like McGregor's concerned him.
He responded by saying those type of comments were "disgraceful".
"Isolated voices like that and voices that essentially are inciting hate and a degree of, to some extent, incitement is unacceptable," he added.

The Sinn Fein mob burning down the British embassy was before my time by I do remember the riot at Lansdowne Road which turned into street battles on O'Connell St. in 1995 and then there was the Love Ulster Parade in 2006.
It's shocking when it happens but the town has form for public disorder events in the wrong circumstances.
There wasn't that many involved compared to other riots.
So many journos looking for stories and information travels so quickly means stuff like this get picked up outside of the local area.Zig wrote: Sun Nov 26, 2023 2:43 pmThe Sinn Fein mob burning down the British embassy was before my time by I do remember the riot at Lansdowne Road which turned into street battles on O'Connell St. in 1995 and then there was the Love Ulster Parade in 2006.

Rushing through the hate speech laws is something else.
Even Musk commented on it today.
Ireland, like everywhere else, is so fucked.

Sound's like something Stalin would say.Ireland's Green Party Sen. Pauline O'Reilly: “We are restricting freedom but we're doing it for the common good…
Still, Ireland has suckled on the teat of the EU and now it's time to pay the piper.
Ireland is grand. I had a great day on Saturday before and after the match at Lansdowne.David in Gwent wrote: Mon Nov 27, 2023 8:01 pm Rushing through the hate speech laws is something else.

Very Stalinistic, when it's basically the fundamental principle behind democratic societies passing laws.David in Gwent wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 3:52 pmSound's like something Stalin would say.Ireland's Green Party Sen. Septics properly desperate for something wider to kick off.

If Irish people really had an appetite for this culture war bollocks, we'd have voted for the likes of Renua, Aontu, National Party, Irish Freedom Party and Anti-Corruption Ireland.

Well at least we've learned of an impregnable defence against anti-immigrant revolts in future. Just surround anything you want to protect like government buildings with sportswear shops and places selling cigarettes and booze. These are the equivalent of minefield traps for DAC and his fellow-travellers. Once their hands are full of looted runners and cigarettes they're finished a threat.

There's some top quality shennanigans going on in Ireland, don't worry, I'll put it all in this thread.
Just read this on the BBC and thought it relevant to the thread:

"The Inn is Full" is a bizarre statement to come out with at any time of year, but in December? In reference to people travelling and looking for shelter?
That is a weird sense of humour, if it is that.
