Love him or hate him, you have to admire his skillset.

When he is playing with confidence and his coach builds the game-plan around him, he is brilliant.

But as soon as he is constrained by a conventional or conservative game-plan or he is targeted and struggling to find rhythm, he is absolutely useless.

Bigboy Malherbe and Ginger munching the Lions front row.

But can’t see Frans lasting 40mins carrying all that weight around Loftus.

Again, the scrum the starting point for that try. Humble pie time for a few posters...

I don’t think anybody was doubting his ability to scrummage while in that shape...it’s more his mobility and contributions around the park that are a concern.

Watch him in the loose; walking around and flopping into rucks...

Your tighthead's main job is to scrum and that he's doing well. For a first game, I'm happy.

Main job, sure. But at this level it can’t be your only job.

The moment he makes a meaningful contribution somewhere else on the field I’ll be the first to acknowledge it, but thus far I’ve only seen him walk from ruck to ruck, flop over 2 rucks and stand as a “pillar”.

Still 10-7 Stomers after 30 mins.

Orie just yellow carded. Stormers likely to score soon. Been camping on the Lions trying for 5 mins.

4 maul penalties in the red zone.

There it is. Scarra with the maul try.

Lions gave up trying to defend it. Was risking a second yellow.

Lions forwards just outgunned up front.

Willemse misses the conversion...and it wasn’t that tough of a kick.

Fatty Malherbe off the field after 34 mins.
He scrummed very well, but that’s about it.
Fitness a concern.

Jaco Kriel being a gladiator in the loose. 3 or 4 turnovers already. Absolute beast. Glad to have him back.

Fouche already making 2 great contributions in attack in his 8 mins on the pitch after replacing Malherbe.

Stomps tight 5 are awesome, the back 3 are just ball watching. Kriel making Kolisi look like a tit.

Junkies and Willemse having a great battle at 10.

Can’t be your only job at elite level anymore. 15-20 years ago maybe, but you also have to have other skills nowadays.

Fouche has already had 3 carries since he’s come on and all 3 were meaningful.

Kriel outplaying Kolisi and Jantjies outplaying Willemse. Luckily for the Stormers those are the only 2 Lions that showed up to play today.

Augustus having the quietest game I’ve ever seen him play. Completely invisible today.

Galant splits the whole Lions pack and cruises in under the posts. Klarse

27-7 48 mins

Mass changes from both benches

Galant with a super try. Hope he can play to his potential this season.

Reminds me so much of Kurtley Beale when he runs like that.

Lions with parity in the pack now that both teams have cleared their benches.

Should make the last 25mins interesting. Don’t think the Stormers built a big enough lead.

Ulengo try after a sustained period of pressure from the Lions. Excellent touch line conversion by Lombard.

14 - 27 Stormers with 22mins left to play.
Momentum definitely shifted to the Lions for the last quarter.

Another score for the Lions. Good line and leg drive from Pelser.

Lions trail by 6 with 18mins left to play.
21-27 Stomers.

Lions are firmly on top heading into the final stretch. They should score again soon.

Stormers have bottled it. Lions brought on their 15 replacements all at once and it worked like a charm.

It's quite clear that the Stormers lost momentum as soon as Malherbe was subbed. Such a massive player for us.
