I have a few beefs, but this is one... not just the caterpillar, but attitudes toward attack and refereeing the laws too.
The modern game, in a picture...
I'd love to nitpick the ruck being over with those lads on the ground. See the panic on the SH's face.
Really, just ban rolling it back with a foot. In normal rucks they don't need a boot to 'dig' it out anymore. Advantage-happy refs are pinging defenders if they even fall on the 'wrong' side or lay there a second 'too long'.

Varney and Youngs were painful in the 1st half with this. Ref to be fair was relentless in telling the 9s to speed it up.Niegs wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2024 1:33 am I have a few beefs, but this is one... not just the caterpillar, but attitudes toward attack and refereeing the laws too.

Don't see any of them in junior leagues because as soon as we see one start to form, we call use it.Enzedder wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2024 5:41 am Ref should have called use it when the first person joined. I would have made sure of a quick count as well.
They have 5 seconds to comply.

I'd like to see shoulders above hips, no binding onto the tackled player. Make rucks contestable again... by pushing, no hands either.Sandstorm wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2024 8:20 am Change the laws. As soon as the 9 touches the ball with hand or foot, you can’t join a ruck. No more caterpillars from attacking side or Exocet defenders either.
Or penalty for knee on the ground. No doubt a Northern hemisphere tactic, I blame the Irish for itEnzedder wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2024 5:41 am Ref should have called use it when the first person joined. I would have made sure of a quick count as well.

Like most of these "innovations", this tactic originated in SA (while they were still in SANZAR before you get smart).
