Really sad. What a body of work. Time for some music in no particular order.
As a performer, I always loved this track

Kerosene remains an utterly brilliant tune. Didn't really care about most of the bands he produced, Pixies excepted.

It really is. Albini was on my radar, but I'd never heard that track or any Big Black until Pitchshifter released a (very much inferior) cover of it in 2000.clydecloggie wrote: Wed May 08, 2024 8:17 pm Kerosene remains an utterly brilliant tune. I remember back in the 00s when he picked up Zao off the back of their cleanest, most melodic album, seemingly in a bid to chase the melodic metalcore trend that was becoming so popular, and gave them possibly their scuzziest, nastiest production on an album. He didn't work with them again, but you can hear that record's sound in pretty much eveything else they did subsequently.
Loved his stance on festivals too. A great advocate for art as art not commerce.

Not exactly - shies away from talking about his historical interest in a magazine printing kiddy porn, which was run by a mate of his who he's supported over the years. It's grim stuff.
When you're this much of a counter culture contrarian I guess it's easy to cross some pretty serious boundaries, but it certainly gave me pause. Everything else he did he's either fessed up to as being idiotic or was easily defendable.
Incredible talent, of course, and the way he dealt with bands stands out in the industry.

That one's news to me. Knew he had a reputation as an irredeemable edge lord in his youth, but that clearly sounds a bit different.JM2K6 wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 12:44 pm Not exactly - shies away from talking about his historical interest in a magazine printing kiddy porn, which was run by a mate of his who he's supported over the years.
