Writing a web app for a new site coming in due course, on an NDA unfort.
Am working through member sign up and the dicey decision on gender, considering we have like a zillion genders now apparently, up from the historic 2, I've gone with
(Not Defined, Male, Female, Other). Anyone think I'm going to get cancelled for missing an obvious one?
(Was going to include Welsh, but apparently the joke is getting old).
So gender definition time .... this could get messy

You've got one too many there - male, female, other covers everything.
That's what my prvious work place went with when doing root and branch re-design and no one complained.

I like the question on the old immigration slip flying into Thailand (and Nepal I think) for gender…
Male
Female
Other
Covers everything. I reckon you’re good to go with yours Jethro but some Karen might find an issue.

Or more politely, Rather Not Say is a good option I have seen on a fair amount of these sorts of things.
Your difficulty with that nowadays is there are people would would want to say but don’t have the opportunity. At least ‘other’ allows them the opportunity to state a difference.Hal Jordan wrote: Fri Jun 07, 2024 6:19 am Or more politely, Rather Not Say is a good option I have seen on a fair amount of these sorts of things.

I meant as an additional choice, sorry, I should have been more clear.Biffer wrote: Fri Jun 07, 2024 7:20 amYour difficulty with that nowadays is there are people would would want to say but don’t have the opportunity. We have "Not Selected" if someone by-passes the selection or doesn't want the horror of choosing.
Site owners want to know the gender of their members for targeted emails apparently.
You're definitely getting cancelled when that one is noticed.Jethro wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2024 4:56 amSnuck in Woke Snowflake, waiting to see when someone notices.Lobby wrote: Fri Jun 07, 2024 8:34 am You could try the Tory/GB News/Daily Express version:

This kind of stuff is causing carnage at our kids Primary school…..
The trans parent at the school kicked off 2 years ago because she asked to run in the women’s parents race (think I’ve got this right, she was a man now a woman) and the school said no. Cue a small amount of outrage on FB. So last year they made all the races for kids and parents mixed, but lots of the girls got upset because they didn’t win anything. So this year they selected 3 boys and 3 girls from each class to run a small race, loads of kids crying on the day because they weren’t allowed to run in the race…
It’s very frustrating that an entire school of 700 kids is so impacted by one person on what is meant to be a really fun day

Didn’t the government release some guidance for schools to avoid that situation?Slick wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2024 10:26 am This kind of stuff is causing carnage at our kids Primary school…..

On the main topic though - male and female are not gender related words. They’re sex words.
So, just put sex; male or female. That solves it.
This is the most relevant thing, I expect
