Bulls will walk this. Glasgow got a hiding from a 14 men Lions team a few weeks back.
And the Lions got stuffed by Munster at home, who then lost to Glasgow at home. Sport's funny like that.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 9:45 am Bulls will walk this. Glasgow got a hiding from a 14 men Lions team a few weeks back.

Ticketpros are overloaded, you have to be in a queue to access the seat booking for the game. looks like it might be a sellout if its like that already today. It seems like half the stadium is already sold. While booking some extra tickets for friends a lot of seats were gone already.

I doubt it will be that easy. Its a final, the bulls did well against them in the league stage, but did concede a bunch of tries in 10 minutes. The bulls were very dominant against Benetton in the league stage as well but had it tough against them in the 1/4F so even though I am confident that the Bulls can win, I do not think it will be an easy game and might end up being another close game within 1 score.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 9:45 am Bulls will walk this. You do realize Ouboet is doing reverse mockers.bok_viking wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 12:38 pmI doubt it will be that easy. No way he wants the Bulls to claim an URC title

Do the Embra supporters support the Bulls in the final?
No. I'd have gone if they were playing in Scotland.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:22 pm Do the Embra supporters support the Bulls in the final?

Although I think I’ve changed to a Glasgow supporter this year anyway

Sards would support any team playing against the Stormers.
Well I’m originally from Glasgow and all my family live there, but moved to England when I was about 8, then went to uni in Edinburgh and have lived here now for 7 years. So a bit torn!Jock42 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:31 pmSlick wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:27 pmNo.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:22 pm Do the Embra supporters support the Bulls in the final?
Although I think I’ve changed to a Glasgow supporter this year anywayat least I'd have an excuse for doing that (being from Perth). Maybe I'll start referring to them as Glasgow Caley and slowly morph back into it. The training tops are worth a purchase on this basis.
I prefer the Glasgow kit

Let you off. I just assumed you were a proper Edinburgher.Slick wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:36 pmWell I’m originally from Glasgow and all my family live there, but moved to England when I was about 8, then went to uni in Edinburgh and have lived here now for 7 years. Nope. Edinburgh will always be my home town, and therefore my preferred team, but any Scottish side will get my support. I was delighted at the result yesterday.OomStruisbaai wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:22 pm Do the Embra supporters support the Bulls in the final?
Is the final on any form of council telly?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Look. It's fantastic that a side from Scotland is in the final. Travel and altitude are going to be a leveler. But Bulls have some telling injuries which makes them vulnerable. So it's game on.
Forget ouboet. You expect the Scots to all get behind the Warriors. It's silly that just because you support another team that you can't support the best team at this time to represent Scotland in the final of the URC.
That is exactly what the Bulls are for South Africans. The best South African side to represent South Africa in the URC final. They have my full support

When I was growing up Edinburgh and Glasgow were part of the old Inter-District Championship with their players being selected from the clubs. The team were those two plus North and Midlands, South of Scotland (the heartland of rugby in Scotland) and Anglo Scots, or Scottish Exiles.
This was a bit of a curio, played during a break in the club leagues, these teams also occasionally played touring international sides.
The districts also had school versions of the competition but despite all that I don’t remember any great allegiances to the districts, it was club rugby and international rugby that mattered. As such, because I lived in Edinburgh for a few years and played club rugby there, I support Edinburgh but I support Glasgow as strongly when they play any other team. As a school boy I played for the South and we cheerily battered the posh city kids from Edinburgh and Glasgow :-)
Perhaps younger supporters feel differently because they have grown up with professional rugby and there’s certainly a few who seem to have huge chips on their shoulder about the other team but, pffft, for me it’s all about Scottish rugby and the sport in Scotland really needs both pro sides to be successful, Glasgow have been carrying the flame practically on their own for a long time now.
Anyway, Mon Glasgow.

The ticket sales are going very well, went online this morning to pick up a few extra tickets and all the sections were about 80%+ sold, with several sections only having a handful left. Looks like we might get a sellout sign by Wednesday.bok_viking wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 12:25 pm Ticketpros are overloaded, you have to be in a queue to access the seat booking for the game. looks like it might be a sellout if its like that already today. Cheers for all the Scottish insight. In South Africa the biggest rival is WP (Stormers) vs N Tvl (Bulls) or north vs south. The rest just make up the numbers.
We had a South African player in our team in Edinburgh, Andy Blakeway, Google tells me that he played for Natal back home, that’s the Sharks now, isn’t it?
I found rugby collection cards on him

That's right. Banana boy.
This should be a cracking final. I'm kind of glad it's not an Irish team playing the Bulls as I think a lot of other nonsense could cloud the build up and the game. Both teams play cracking rugby and deserve to be in the final. I'll be supporting the Bulls of course, but I hope it's a classic that proves the travel factor is still worth it in the URC.

Andrea Piardi will referee the final. Slightly surprising as he also reffed the Glasgow semi-final. But he is a very good ref and perhaps this is a small advantage for Glasgow having been reffed by him so recently.
I'm sure his name was Rob, but maybe not.
I was in Durban for much of the 2003 WC and went out one day with a mate who said we were meeting a couple of his mates for the England Samoa game. Turns out it was Percy Montgomery and this guy who was seemingly a bit of a Natal legend and my terrible memory was that he was a hooker and name was Rob.... could be very wrong of course. Anyway, hell of a day being bought drinks by everyone and ending up in the night club at Kings Park

I thought he was a bit younger than that, but it adds up reading some stuff about him, cheers!Monk wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 10:09 amRob Hankinson?Slick wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:15 amI'm sure his name was Rob, but maybe not.assfly wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 5:39 am
The only hooker I remember from that period was Lukas van Biljoen?

I'm mystified as to why Nika hasn't got knockout games in URC or Heineken cup.clydecloggie wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:05 am Andrea Piardi will referee the final. Piardi had a good game last weekend so just reward for him.

I think a lot of fans will be there early on Saturday with the Bok game being shown in the beer garden, the shopping mall and the stadium. We will have a good time out at the stadium starting early
