The Herald article refers to it as ‘New Zealand’s national stadium’. Is it? It certainly hosts the biggest games but I’ve never really thought we had one. Not like the NH nations for example.

They've been using that line in their marketing for a while. Assuming to try and bring in revenue with more fubtion and events etc, although how they get events pass the neighbour's is up in the air

Is there still any talk, no matter how muted or speculative, about a new ground by the waterfront in JAFAland?

No... the Eden Park Trust have been busy trying to leverage permission to open the facility up to a wider range of uses, tying up essential bureaucratic time wastage resources and diverting attention from the issue of it being old, tired and in the wrong place.

That kind of marketing can fuck off.

One of the great things about our NATIONAL game is our test quality rugby stadiums across our little country.

We don't need or want to play all our rugby internationals in one big stadium in our biggest city, like so many other countries.

I agree, and as someone who lives in that city I'm not going to be forking out to go to more than 1 test a year anyway

It'll always be Eden Park to me. ASB is the Cantab stadium.

In fact, when the new waterfront stadium is built in 2062, they could shift Eden Park's name to the new stadium for old times sake.
