Yup. The reality is that Lyles has utterly dominated the 200m these past few years but has not run faster than Tebogo did tonight since 2022.
COVID or not he was beaten by the better man.

It's a matter of physicality versus identification. There is no question about the gender of the person involved. Physically, that is a woman, who happens to be gay and doesn't identify as female...Slick wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 9:00 pm I’m asking because I don’t know. She says she’s non binary and wants to be called they. So how does she compete in the women’s competition and could she compete in the men’s? And by extension could a they who was a male at birth compete in the women’s events? Or does they not really mean anything in gender terms in a sports context? But presumably does in…. I’m lost
Ahh, yes that makes sense. Was tired and my head got into a bit of a spin about it, but actually very simple!Guy Smiley wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 5:20 amIt's a matter of physicality versus identification. as far as we are concerned, as fans following sport, there is no question and no dilemma to face. How a person identifies is a complex issue that revolves around personal choice and whatever reasons lie behind making that choice.
Raven Saunders of Team USA competes with a full facemask and ... "It is one way to make me stand out and want to encourage other women"
Calculon wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 6:22 am She can compete in men's shot put but she'd be a bit shit. She also identifies as female... at least some times.

Quite. Lyles hasn't run as fast as Tobogo ran in a couple of years.Hugo wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 5:06 pm Somewhat grating that the narrative of Lyles lost solely cos he had COVID has gained traction.
Tebogo is a serious talent who has been one to watch and an up and comer for a few years now. That performance last night was something that he was more than capable of and I believe he would have beaten Lyles even if he was fully fit.
I just hate to see athletes denied their credit on a day that belonged to them.
‘IF’ he has Covid he put all the other athletes medical people and officials at risk. Stunningly selfish (although I can understand why he did it)Hugo wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 5:06 pm Somewhat grating that the narrative of Lyles lost solely cos he had COVID has gained traction.

Hats off to Hall as well. Properly emptied the tank.Biffer wrote: Fri Aug 09, 2024 6:39 pm Ach, KJT doesn’t quite get enough to win gold in the heptathlon. Silver for her though. Remarkable after the injuries and all the other things that have gone on in her life.
Forced Thiam to run a PB in the 800 for the gold.
These East Africans certainly seem to find some gas from somewhere….Openside wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 10:22 am Did I hear that correctly? Lydia Ko completes the full set of Olympic medals with the gold. And with it a place in the Women's golf Hall of Fame. She will be happier with the Gold medal though.
