And by extension could a they who was a male at birth compete in the women’s events? Or does they not really mean anything in gender terms in a sports context? But presumably does in…. I’m lost

It's a matter of physicality versus identification. There is no question about the gender of the person involved. Physically, that is a woman, who happens to be gay and doesn't identify as female...

as far as we are concerned, as fans following sport, there is no question and no dilemma to face. How a person identifies is a complex issue that revolves around personal choice and whatever reasons lie behind making that choice.

Tebogo is a serious talent who has been one to watch and an up and comer for a few years now. That performance last night was something that he was more than capable of and I believe he would have beaten Lyles even if he was fully fit.

I just hate to see athletes denied their credit on a day that belonged to them.

Adeleke did well to come in 4th. What's striking is that the world record is from the 80's and set by an athlete from GDR.
No way that's a clean record.
