This could get interesting...

I'm taking a group to Accra in a couple of weeks and had a couple of emails this morning with big concerns.

There will be massive pushback from Africa to any travel bans, but I guess it mainly depends on if it reaches our shores in any numbers.

It's spreading bloody fast. A week ago it was mainly contained in Congo and CAR but now in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and a huge increase in Burundi (and Sweden) - given that Congo and CAR don't have large numbers travelling across borders it's a pretty significant spread IMO.

Close contact, including sex. That puts a dampener on Slick's tour plans then.....

Clade I has, in the past, typically spread by people eating infected bushmeat.
Clade Ib is spreading person to person, often via sexual contact, but also through other physical and face-to-face contact, or via contaminated bedding or towels

The little I've seen suggest they don't deny this one quite as much because it produce ugly sores, rather than similar to cold/flu, it's harder to just shake your head.

The fact it's a virus again might confuse a few of them though. And dredge up the whole bullshit "viruses aren't real because the bloke who invented the tests says they aren't."

The Conspiracy Theorists on Xitter are starting to pipe up about Monkey Pox already. It's WHO grifting for more money and it all comes from a biolab in Maryland

She's with her friends family, it's an expedition 14 of them I think 4 Landcruisers. Right now they're non contactable, but even if they were it's a while before they're scheduled to be anywhere near a proper airport (till they get back to Joburg on 22nd).

I don't think it's anything to worry about unduly at the moment, they are a long, long way from the major outbreaks.

Bugger... not much you can do but wait. Fair bet they'll know what's going on though.

As long as they can pin it on "the gays", they'll cheer it on.

Due to go to Okavango Delta and do a photographic safari in mokoros. Then to do a walking photographic safari in the Kalahari. Both in November. Will be pretty pissed off if cannot go as our first trips to Chobe River in Botswana were cancelled twice due to COVID. Been three times since then.

Trying not to think about it ..

Just go. The media will make out like the situation will be a disaster in Africa, but in reality life will go on as it always does. That sounds like the trip of a lifetime.
