So you are saying Australian Politics doesn't deserve it's own thread?
Definitely the feelgood story of the year, I keep laughing massively at each report of their continued failures.Jethro wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:08 am And in another example of the Coalition not knowing their arses from their elbows, they didn't register their candidates before the cut off date in our local electionsBut never fear a number of the former candidates are now claiming they are going to run as independents, clearly not understanding what "cut off date" means
Seriously this is Trump level stupid.

Already a thread for both of themGuy Smiley wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 5:38 pmWhy?Slick wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 4:27 pm Maybe we could combine this with the New Zealand politics thread?
The two countries’ political scenes are completely separate, there are no identifying factors in common. The voting methods used and the structure of the two parliaments is different.
Aside from the convenience of being on the other side of the world from you and still bound by the manacles of colonialism, we have very little in common to validate merging the two threads.
Nothing as original or unique as a Saffa regurgitating someone else's joke within a few posts of the original.TheNatalShark wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:07 pmAlready a thread for both of themGuy Smiley wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 5:38 pmWhy?Slick wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 4:27 pm Maybe we could combine this with the New Zealand politics thread?

Exactly... so you English should understand my aversion to merging anything Kiwi with the Australians...Slick wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:17 pmCome along now, Guy, we’ve known each other long enough…Guy Smiley wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 5:38 pmWhy?Slick wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 4:27 pm Maybe we could combine this with the New Zealand politics thread?

Source:The New South Wales Liberal Party could face three by-elections on the same day following the resignation of an MP charged with child-sex offences.
Rory Amon, who was the MP for Pittwater on Sydney's Northern Beaches, was arrested at Manly Police Station and charged with 10 child-sex offences on Friday.
The 35-year-old quit parliament hours after police announced the charges.
In my area the choice was between the Labor candidates and mayor and a bunch of independents who didn't bother telling anyone what their policies were, so 100% labour council then. Notably absent Libs of course and the Greens weren't fielding any candidates which surprised me.Voters will have to wait until next month to find out the official results of Saturday's New South Wales council elections.
The final ballots were cast at 6pm last night in elections across 127 local government areas in the state.
Counting stopped at 10pm, and for all but two councils it won't resume until Monday.
A New South Wales Electoral Commission spokesperson said it expected to officially declare the results from October 1 to 3, with the timing varying between councils.
About 5.5 million people were registered to vote, with nearly a quarter of them cast early.
Voters in traditionally Liberal-dominated government areas faced the prospect of a drastically different local council.
This year's election has been marked by the failure of the NSW Liberal Party to nominate 136 counsellors across 16 different council areas.
The New South Wales Electoral Commission will resume the count on Monday, and the official results will be declared early October.

Next election to watch ACT, can Labor make it 27 years in a row? Apparently not even the locals are interested in that one. Queensland State election coming up though, which should be real interesting given Labor's complete collapse on environmental policies, including airport noise, and the Coalition now having to fight on two fronts - Labor and Greens both a clear and present danger in South East Queensland. Of course Labor are seeing erosion to the Greens in key inner city seats due to their policies not gelling with the electorate at the moment. Will the Olympic fiasco and the opening of borders have an affect?

Up here in Newcastle, an independent (ex-Labor) candidate blew away the, allegedly, corrupt Lord Mayor. Worth a punt!
Lots of Independents with Liberals on the pamphlets which was close to breaching the rules
A fine chance to beat Sydney Cabal! *
