Something a little more aesthetically pleasing to me was built as cottages at Martha's Vineyard around 150 years ago.



Another that still exists in southern California are called bungalow courts. I reckon a savvy developer could market these to groups of friends.

Would you live in a situation like his if the big house / lot was out of your range?

They keep saying 'Tiny home' and all I can think of as a Brit is, those rooms look bigger than many I've seen in a bunch of ostensibly fairly sizeable, fully detatched houses. I'd rather have a few good sized rooms than a bunch of small, poky ones that feel miniature as soon as you put in a shelf.

As a single adult, one of those houses would be great. You could be pretty content in there as a couple too I reckon. Shit, many couples live in far smaller spaces as is. The only thing that could really stand for improvement is more of a proper garden per property, especially if all the grass around the properties is going to be mowed right down to the ground like that.

Some years ago I did a cycle tour in North Vietnam. We stopped in a mountain village, had a look round one of the houses and met the owner. An American chap on the tour was going 'oh, the poverty'. All the Brits were saying 'hey, lots of space'

I live in a flat in London. Those houses look a very good size to me.

I spent a big chunk of my 20s living in a 25 m2 flat and it was fine. The main issue is that you have to do your socializing elsewhere.

... Katie Porter talking about housing issues in the US. She always 'brings the receipts' as the kids say, sharing her own team's researched facts and figures instead of just empty phrases and asking officials to share their input to her and other politicians.




I imagine it's the same in most western countries, but it really is quite fucked that the 'haves' can hoover up so much housing and rent it out. Politicians here won't budge on it because so many Canadians with homes, investment homes, and the ability to snap up a few more don't want their current wealth devalued. Even the most empathetic have their future / retirement / plan for kids tied into their homes / maybe one extra rental and/or an Air BnB.
