Yup, VM will jump to £76.25 per month at the end of my current contract. Unjustifiable for internet only. Rip off Britain at it's finest.

The Community fibre will be £26 per month.

I'm paying almost that much for 270/26.

Very expensive. In 2 months I can dump then and get the 1 Gbps symmetrical service from Community Fibre for a £500+ a year cheaper!
Blimmin heck - I pay less than the equivalent of that for the whole thing.
Community fibre is £312 a year for 1Gb. It just shows how expensive Virginmedia are.

Or maybe a reason why CF are struggling for funds? :-)

Speedtest describes that as “fast” but all your comparisons above would suggest otherwise v strongly. So would practical experience. We are on a BT subspur in the Surrey Hills, which they do not give a damn about. Main problem is that with thick internal walls, some main rooms in the house get nothing, even with boosters being used.

Any immediate obvious changes we are missing?
Are you actually paying for a 40Mbps package? Agreed re: fast, most countries are moving beyond that being considered high speed, eg the FCC recently changed their definition of broadband to be 100x20, up from 25x3.

For WiFi in problematic homes, you may find power line adapters offer a solution, particularly if there is a certain area that gets poor signal.
Cheers for the advice. No idea what we are paying for internet-wise. No otherwise tbh, seeing as we have stopped the landline number. Our ignorance rather than a complaint vs BT to be clear.

We have routed some of our WiFI through the internal electric circuits, if that’s what you mean. That does work better until anyone switches on anything that uses the same power source and then it crashes. There is no other power source near where the router comes in and all eclectic things are grouped, which causes a problem.

I feel like a stegosaurus when it comes to IT.

So got the 'your contract ends soon' email from Virgin.

email states new price will be £76.48 per month (from £63.80, the email says I'm currently paying £61.25  )
further down the email I can 'move to a brillaint new bundle for £78.00 (for the same service I'm on).

No way to stop an auto renew in the email or via login to online account, must call to be insulted further.

So I call.

Customer retentions - new price will actually be £80 but can do best offer of £61, no thanks. cancel please.

Put through to cancellation, ah yes, blah, blah, How about £48? Um what now...No thanks cancel. Bottom of the same email states gloriously that new customers will get it for £39.

But I still have to give 30 days notice! BULLSHIT - END OF CONTRACT IS END OF CONTRACT FOR FUCK SAKE! If that's the case why did you only email me with 3 weeks to go, not 4 weeks to go??? reponse "we did on the 22nd" - check my emails. No you didn't...

Anyway Community Fibre 1GB for £26 pm booked installation date!
