England can't seriously go into the next season (or NZ for that matter) with Crawley and Pope. At least one needs to miss out.
Crawley has had a pretty decent time of things in the last couple of years, averaged 40 in a horror show tour of India, and can properly frighten teams. He's in no danger.
Pope is hugely frustrating but he's just been captaining the side, can't see him being moved on. He is the weak link, though.
Pope and Crawley can keep plodding along scoring the odd big score to keep their place and it will hold the team back.
Since he came back in and they became a pair, Duckett has done a lot of the heavy lifting in the opening partnership. Don't have the stats but he must be averaging a good 10 runs more than Crawley since they became a pair.
I don't think anyone can accuse Crawley of plodding along, tbh.
Duckett is an excellent player and has done very well, no question. Since his return to the side, he's scored 1980 runs, averaged 45 with 4 centuries and 11 50s, and had a strike rate of 88. Crawley in the same time period has scored 1484 runs at 38, 2 centuries and 10 50s at a strike rate of 81, in 7 fewer innings.
Duckett has been an unqualified success. Crawley a qualified one, but he averaged 53 against the Aussies and 40 against India - he's going nowhere.
